How does the sulfur content in Bonny Light Crude Oil affect refinery acceptance?

Refineries use assay reports to determine if the sulfur content meets their processing capabilities. High sulfur levels may require additional hydrotreating, increasing processing costs for the buyer. The specification must match the refinery's technical requirements exactly. Buyers should request the latest assay data to verify if the grade is suitable for their specific unit configuration.

What specific UN number must appear on the shipping documents for Petroleum coke?

Petroleum coke is classified under a specific UN number based on its carbon content and volatility. This number dictates the stowage requirements and separation rules on the vessel. The safety data sheet must list this UN number to ensure compliance with international maritime regulations. An incorrect UN number will delay clearance and may result in rejection at the port.

Why does a quote for Activated Carbon expire faster than standard industrial goods?

Quotes for Activated Carbon expire due to fluctuations in feedstock prices and active content percentages. The market for activated carbon is sensitive to raw material availability. Buyers should expect quotes to remain valid for only a few days. Confirming the active content percentage is essential for accurate pricing and performance expectations.

What role does the CAS identity play in comparing Activated Carbon listings?

The CAS identity distinguishes Activated Carbon based on its source material and processing method. Different CAS numbers indicate variations in pore size distribution and adsorption capacity. Buyers must match the CAS number to their specific application requirements. Using the wrong CAS identity can lead to performance failures in filtration or purification processes.

How does the impurity profile influence the price of Crude Oil?

The impurity profile, including sulfur and metal content, directly impacts the refining cost. Higher impurity levels require more complex processing, reducing the net value of the crude. Buyers should analyze the impurity profile to determine the true landed cost. Refineries adjust their bids based on the expected cost of removing these impurities.

What documentation is required for the destination to accept a dangerous goods declaration?

The destination authorities require a dangerous goods declaration that matches the local regulatory format. This document must align with the safety data sheet and the UN number. Discrepancies between the declaration and the physical cargo can lead to delays or fines. Buyers should ensure the seller provides the declaration in the correct language and format.

How does choosing an ISO tank versus a drum change the landed cost?

Shipping in an ISO tank typically reduces the per-unit freight cost compared to drums. However, ISO tanks require specific handling infrastructure at both ends of the journey. Drums are more flexible but incur higher packaging and handling costs. Buyers should calculate the total landed cost based on the available infrastructure at the destination.
