Question 1

How do I distinguish between a listing for raw coffee beans and processed green coffee in Ethiopia Agriculture Products?

Accepted Answer

The distinction lies in the processing stage stated in the description. Raw beans are harvested and dried but not yet hulled or graded for export. Green coffee has undergone hulling and polishing but remains unroasted. You must check the description for hulling status, as this determines the price difference and the specific phytosanitary certificates required for entry into your market.

Question 2

What specific export document is mandatory for Live Ethiopian cattle shipments?

Accepted Answer

Live cattle require a veterinary health certificate issued by the Ethiopian Ministry of Agriculture. This document confirms the animals are free from specific diseases like Foot and Mouth Disease. You must verify the certificate matches the destination country's animal import regulations, as livestock movements are heavily restricted by health zones and quarantine requirements that do not apply to crop exports.

Question 3

Why can't I compare a quote for raw coffee with one for fertilizer?

Accepted Answer

These items belong to different sub-categories with entirely different logistics. Coffee is a dried agricultural commodity that requires moisture control and bagging. Fertilizer is a chemical input that may require hazardous material handling and specific storage conditions. The cost structures, insurance rates, and port handling fees are unrelated, making direct price comparison meaningless.

Question 4

What goes wrong if I source living flowers under Agriculture Products instead of Flowers and Plants?

Accepted Answer

You will encounter sellers who do not handle cold chain logistics. Living flowers require temperature-controlled transport from farm to airport. A listing in the general Agriculture branch often refers to dried botanicals or seeds, which do not need refrigeration. Using the wrong branch leads to quotes for non-perishable goods that cannot meet your freshness requirements.

Question 5

What packing standard applies to bulk coffee exports from Ethiopia?

Accepted Answer

Ethiopian green coffee is typically packed in jute bags or grain pro bags. The packing must protect the beans from moisture and contamination during transit. You must verify if the seller uses new bags or repurposed ones, as this affects the quality preservation. The bagging standard is critical because coffee absorbs odors and moisture easily if the packaging is compromised.

Question 6

How does sourcing machinery differ from buying raw crops in this category?

Accepted Answer

Machinery listings require specifications for voltage, power, and compatibility with local infrastructure. Raw crops require specifications for grade, moisture, and origin. Machinery is shipped in containers or breakbulk, while crops are often shipped in bulk or bagged containers. The inspection process for machinery involves functional testing, whereas crop inspection focuses on visual quality and laboratory analysis.

Question 7

What specific defect should I check for in shipped Ethiopian Green Arabica Coffee?

Accepted Answer

The primary defect is moisture damage, which leads to mold and off-flavors. You must check the description for moisture content and storage conditions. Defects also include broken beans, discoloration, and foreign matter. A listing that omits these details is incomplete, as the grade of coffee is defined by the number and type of defects present in the sample.
