How does chemical assay vary between two rows of the same mineral name?

The chemical assay defines the elemental composition and impurity levels. One seller might list a high metal content with low sulfur, while another lists the same mineral name but with higher silica. Always compare the specific assay percentages to understand the true value and processing cost for your facility.

What is the difference between particle size distribution and lump size in this trade?

Particle size distribution applies to powdered or finely ground minerals, affecting how they flow and pack. Lump size refers to larger, irregular pieces of ore. Confusing these terms leads to wrong freight calculations and processing issues. Verify which metric the seller is using for your specific product type.

Why is a mineral export licence critical before loading cargo?

The mineral export licence is a legal requirement for removing these resources from Papua New Guinea. Without it, customs will not release the cargo. The buyer should request proof of this licence to ensure the shipment is not held at the origin port due to regulatory non-compliance.

How does radiation screening impact the clearance timeline?

Radiation screening checks for naturally occurring radioactive materials in the ore. This process can add days to the clearance timeline if additional testing is required. Buyers should ask if the seller has pre-existing screening data to speed up the initial inspection and loading process.

What determines whether I pay for weight or volume in freight?

The density of the mineral and its stowage factor determine the chargeable weight. Dense ores often pay by weight, while lighter materials like certain mineral powders may pay by volume. Calculate the ratio before booking to avoid paying for empty space in the container.

How do commodity index fluctuations affect the validity of a quote?

Quotes for Ores and Minerals are tied to volatile commodity indices. A delay in acceptance can render the quote stale within days. The seller will likely adjust the price to match the current index level at the time of confirmation, not the original quote date.

What specific moisture content limits apply to mineral powder shipments?

Moisture content affects the net weight and can cause liquefaction in fine powders. Sellers must state the maximum allowable moisture percentage. Exceeding this limit can make the cargo unsafe for transport and lead to rejection by the carrier. Always check the moisture spec against your safety requirements.
