How does the assay certificate for gold determine the final payment amount?

The assay certificate states the exact purity of the gold, usually in karats or parts per thousand. Payment is typically calculated on the weight of pure gold contained in the shipment, not the total weight of the material. Buyers must verify that the assay lab is recognized by the destination market to ensure the purity reading is accepted for settlement.

What distinguishes a listing for raw copper ore from processed copper cathodes?

Raw copper ore is a geological extract where value is driven by the percentage of copper content and the presence of impurities like arsenic or sulfur. Copper cathodes are processed metal sheets with a standardized purity level, usually defined by international standards for conductivity and physical dimensions. The packing, inspection methods, and pricing mechanisms for these two forms are entirely different.

Why is the specific mineral class important when checking export permissions in Papua New Guinea?

Export permissions are tied to the specific geological classification of the material, such as gold, copper, or nickel. A seller must hold the correct license for the exact mineral being extracted or processed. Shipping a mineral without the specific permit for that class can lead to seizure at the port of departure.

What documentation does the destination market require for imported metal products from Papua New Guinea?

Destination markets often require a certificate of origin to determine tariff rates and a mill test report for processed metals to verify mechanical properties. For raw ores, a chemical analysis report is mandatory to assess processing feasibility. Buyers should check their local import regulations to see which specific documents are non-negotiable for customs clearance.

How does the physical form of bauxite affect its shipping and inspection?

Bauxite is typically shipped in bulk vessels rather than containers due to its density and volume. Inspection focuses on the alumina content and moisture levels, which vary by deposit. The seller must confirm if the material meets the specific grade requirements for aluminum smelting, as impurities can render the batch unsuitable for processing.

What specification defines the value of nickel laterite versus nickel matte?

Nickel laterite is a raw ore where value is determined by the nickel and cobalt percentages and the silica ratio. Nickel matte is an intermediate processed product with a much higher metal concentration, usually measured in percent nickel and sulfur content. The pricing formula and the required assay reports differ significantly between these two stages of processing.

What goes wrong if the inland transport to the port is not confirmed before shipping?

Goods leaving Papua New Guinea often face logistical constraints on the road network leading to the coast. If inland transport is not arranged or confirmed, the goods may sit at the mine or warehouse, incurring demurrage charges. The seller must clarify if the quote includes haulage to the port or if the buyer must arrange this separately.
