How does the screen size requirement differ for Pasta production versus other uses?

Pasta production demands a specific screen size to ensure consistent dough texture and cooking time. If the grain is too coarse or too fine for the extruder, the final product quality drops. Buyers must specify the exact mesh size in the enquiry because generic listings rarely state the precise grading sieve used during milling. A mismatch here causes processing jams or inferior pasta texture.

What is the risk of moisture content exceeding limits in bulk shipments?

Exceeding the moisture content limit invites mold growth and aflatoxin development during transit. This is especially dangerous in containerized bulk shipments where ventilation is limited. The buyer risks the entire container being rejected at destination if the phytosanitary certificate does not align with the actual moisture readings taken upon discharge. Always request recent moisture test results from the seller.

Why does the crop year matter for Malt quality?

The crop year determines the enzymatic activity and protein content essential for brewing Malt. Older stock may have degraded diastatic power, leading to inefficient sugar extraction during the mash. Buyers must verify the crop year on the listing because quotes for the current harvest differ significantly from surplus old crop. Using old crop for premium brewing results in inconsistent beer flavor profiles.

How does bagging versus bulk affect the landed cost for these products?

Shipping in bags adds packaging material costs and labor but allows for easier partial unloading. Bulk shipping reduces per-unit packaging costs but requires specialized handling equipment at the destination and increases the risk of contamination. Container stuffing weight limits also vary between the two methods, affecting how many tons you can fit into a standard container. Choose based on your discharge infrastructure.

What happens if the fumigation on loading documentation is missing?

Without documented fumigation on loading, the phytosanitary certificate may be deemed invalid by the destination authority. This leads to the container being held at the port for re-fumigation or destruction. The cost of storage demurrage and re-treatment falls on the buyer if the seller failed to provide proof. Always request the fumigation certificate as part of the initial document pack.

How do destination MRL lists impact acceptance of Italian Agriculture Products?

Destination MRL lists set the maximum residue limits for pesticides that are often stricter than Italian domestic standards. If the tested residue exceeds these limits, the shipment is rejected regardless of its physical quality. Buyers must know their specific market's MRL list before ordering to avoid rejection. Sellers should provide recent lab analysis confirming compliance with the destination's specific chemical thresholds.

What mistake do buyers make regarding admixture and foreign matter?

Buyers often overlook the admixture and foreign matter percentage, assuming the product is clean. However, high levels of stones, chaff, or other grains can damage processing equipment and lower the final yield. This hidden cost reduces the effective value of the purchase. Always specify the maximum allowable admixture percentage in the contract to protect against receiving lower-grade material than quoted.
