Question 1

How does the impurity profile affect the suitability of a diesel fuel listing?

Accepted Answer

The impurity profile determines whether the batch can be used in sensitive engines or industrial burners without causing damage. Listings must specify the sulfur content and other contaminants relative to the destination standards. A generic title like Ultra Low Sulfur Diesel Ppm En does not confirm the actual chemical makeup. You need the specific breakdown of aromatics and metals to ensure the fuel meets your equipment specifications. Without this data, the risk of injector clogging or emission failures increases significantly.

Question 2

What documentation proves the safety data sheet matches the destination country?

Accepted Answer

The safety data sheet must be formatted according to the specific regulatory framework of the importing country. It must align with the UN number and packing group declared for the cargo. If the destination requires REACH registration, the seller must provide proof of that registration. Mismatched formats cause customs delays or outright rejection. Verify that the chemical hazards listed correspond exactly to the physical product being shipped.

Question 3

Why is dangerous-goods booking space more critical than price volatility?

Accepted Answer

Even if the feedstock price remains stable, a lack of available vessel space for hazardous materials can invalidate a quote. Many ports have limited capacity for flammable liquids, causing delays that extend beyond the validity period of the original offer. Securing booking space often takes longer than negotiating the price. Buyers should confirm vessel availability before finalizing any purchase agreement to avoid being stranded with an expired offer.

Question 4

Does shipping in ISO tank change the hazard class requirements?

Accepted Answer

The hazard class is determined by the chemical properties of the Petroleum, Oil & Related Products, not the packaging. However, using an ISO tank versus drum or IBC affects which vessels are permitted to carry the cargo. Some ship operators refuse certain hazard classes in specific container types. This restriction impacts the available shipping routes and the associated insurance costs. Always confirm the carrier's acceptance criteria for your chosen packaging method.

Question 5

What distinguishes a technical grade from a pharma grade listing?

Accepted Answer

The distinction lies in the purity levels and the presence of specific trace contaminants. Pharma grade requires stringent controls on heavy metals and residual solvents, often defined by strict assay or active content percentage thresholds. Technical grade allows for broader impurity profiles suitable for industrial machinery or heating. A listing must explicitly state the grade designation to prevent using pharmaceutical-grade specifications for industrial applications, or vice versa.

Question 6

How do you verify the CAS identity in a supplier's document?

Accepted Answer

The CAS identity provides a unique numerical identifier for the chemical substance, ensuring there is no confusion with similar compounds. You must cross-reference this number with the product name and the impurity profile provided. Discrepancies between the CAS number and the listed specifications indicate a potential error or mislabeling. This verification step is essential before sending an enquiry, as it confirms the exact chemical being offered.

Question 7

What happens if the REACH registration is not transferred to the buyer?

Accepted Answer

Without a valid REACH registration or equivalent, the product cannot legally enter the European market. The seller must provide evidence that the substance is registered for the intended use. If the registration is missing or expired, the cargo will be seized or destroyed at the destination. This compliance requirement is non-negotiable for trade into regulated jurisdictions and must be addressed before any payment is made.
