What proof of treatment disclosure is required for emerald listings?

Sellers must disclose if emeralds have been oiled or resin-filled, as this affects durability and value. The listing should state the extent of treatment, which buyers verify against independent lab reports. Without this disclosure, the stone may appear different under various lighting conditions or degrade over time.

How does hallmarking impact Bes Silver purchases?

Hallmarking confirms the actual silver content, distinguishing it from plated or lower-purity alloys. Buyers must check the stamp against the destination's legal standards for silver purity. A missing or incorrect hallmark indicates the item may not meet import regulations for precious metals.

When does the Kimberley Process apply to gemstone shipments?

The Kimberley Process applies strictly to rough diamonds, requiring valid certificates before the goods can leave the origin country. Other gemstones like amber or aquamarine do not fall under this scheme. Buyers must ensure the correct certificate type is attached to avoid customs rejection.

Why is secure carriage more important than weight for this category?

The high value of Gems & Jewellery means insurance and security costs far exceed standard freight charges based on weight. Packages are often shipped via air courier with specialized tracking and insurance. Standard postal services do not provide the necessary security for high-value consignments.

How do I verify the clarity grading on a rough emerald?

Clarity grading describes the internal inclusions and surface blemishes visible without magnification. Buyers should request high-resolution images or video under standardized lighting to assess these features. The grade directly correlates with the stone's transparency and overall market value.

What happens if the Kimberley Process certificate is missing?

Customs authorities will detain the shipment until the valid certificate is provided by the exporter. This can cause significant delays and incur storage fees at the port. The buyer may need to arrange for the seller to resend the document or face the return of the goods.

Does the setting style affect the metal purity claim?

The setting style does not change the metal purity, but it can obscure hallmark stamps. Buyers must verify the purity through independent assay if the hallmark is hidden. The finish and setting quality also impact the final retail value of the piece.
