How do I distinguish between a raw ore concentrate and a fabricated metal product in the listings?

The sub-branch selection dictates the specification language. Ores and Minerals listings reference chemical assays, purity percentages, and moisture content because the value lies in the elemental composition. Metal & Metal Products listings reference dimensions, tolerances, and mechanical properties because the value lies in the form. Check the listing body for these technical terms to confirm the product state.

What specific data is missing from a gold dore bar listing that I must request?

Gold dore bars are an alloy and require a detailed assay report to determine the exact gold content versus impurities. A basic listing title rarely includes the fineness percentage or the specific composition of silver and other metals. You must ask for the assay certificate or the specific purity grade before accepting any quote to calculate the true value.

Why is the export paperwork different for ores versus used rails leaving Ghana?

Raw ores are subject to mineral export regulations that often require specific mining permits and environmental clearances from the origin country. Used rails are classified as second-hand goods and may face different customs classifications and inspection requirements. The seller must provide the correct export documentation for the specific sub-category, which varies significantly between raw materials and fabricated metal goods.

What goes wrong if I source used rails under the ores branch?

Used rails are fabricated metal products that require mechanical property checks and dimensional tolerances, not chemical assays. Sourcing them under ores leads to suppliers who specialize in raw mineral extraction rather than metal recycling or fabrication. This mismatch results in irrelevant quotations that do not address the wear resistance or gauge requirements essential for rail applications.

How does the specification for dore gold bars differ from standard gold bars?

Dore gold bars are unrefined alloys containing gold alongside silver and other base metals, requiring a specific assay to determine value. Standard gold bars are refined to a high purity level with standardized weights and dimensions. The listing must specify whether the product is dore or refined, as the pricing mechanism and inspection process differ entirely between the two forms.

What field on a row tells you if the item is raw ore or a finished good?

The sub-category link or the product title phrasing indicates the physical state. Raw ores typically include terms like concentrate, lump, or raw material in the description. Finished goods use terms like fabricated, rolled, or used in reference to the product form. Verify this distinction early to ensure you are engaging with suppliers who handle the correct stage of the supply chain.

Why is it hard to compare two listings for gold dore bars?

Each dore bar lot has a unique assay result that determines its purity and impurity profile. Two listings may look identical in title but differ significantly in gold content and refining costs. You must compare the specific assay reports or fineness percentages provided in the listing details to make an accurate comparison of the landed value.
