How does ash content change the discount on a copper ore quote?

Smelters apply a penalty when the ash content exceeds the agreed limit in the sales contract. This impurity consumes furnace energy and reduces the yield of pure metal. The discount is calculated per ton of ash over the threshold, directly lowering the final payment to the seller. You must verify the ash percentage in the mill test certificate before the shipment leaves Ghana.

What happens if the radiation screening fails at the destination port?

The entire container or break-bulk shipment gets rejected by local authorities. The cargo must be returned to the port of origin or destroyed at the importer's expense. This risk makes radiation screening a mandatory step before the goods leave Ghana. You should require the latest screening results from the seller to avoid holding costs at your own port.

Why does moisture content reduce the payable weight for graphite?

Moisture adds dead weight that provides no value to the buyer. Contracts for graphite typically deduct the excess moisture from the gross weight to calculate the payable tonnage. High moisture also risks clumping during transport and discharge. You must check the moisture limit in the listing to ensure the seller is not inflating the weight with water.

When does a mineral export licence become invalid for shipping?

The licence is valid only for the specific tonnage and batch stated on the document. It expires after a set period or if the shipment details change significantly. Customs will reject the cargo if the licence does not match the bill of lading. You must verify the licence is current and covers the exact lot you are buying in Ghana.

How does particle size distribution affect the smelting process for nickel ore?

Smelters require a specific range of lump sizes to ensure proper airflow and chemical reaction in the furnace. Fine particles can cause blockages or uneven heating, leading to lower recovery rates. The seller must provide a sieve analysis to prove the ore meets the size specification. Mismatched particle size can result in significant penalties on the final metal content.

What is the difference between break-bulk and container costs for mica?

Mica sheets are fragile and often require careful handling that break-bulk vessels provide. Containers risk damage from stacking and compression during transit. The stowage factor for mica means it takes up more space relative to its weight. You must calculate the landed cost based on the correct shipping method to avoid unexpected freight overruns.

Why must the mill test certificate match the physical lot exactly?

The certificate proves the chemical assay and physical properties of the specific batch being shipped. If the numbers do not match the actual cargo, the buyer has no proof of grade. Discrepancies can lead to rejection by the destination refinery or legal disputes. You must ensure the seller provides a certificate issued by an independent lab for the exact lot in Ghana.
