Does a listing for Crude oil include the assay results required for refinery acceptance?

The listing title rarely includes the full assay or impurity profile. Refineries require specific active content percentage data to determine if the crude meets their desalting and cracking capabilities. Buyers must request the full technical specification sheet to verify that the CAS identity and sulfur content align with their processing units before committing to a purchase.

How does the UN number on the dangerous-goods declaration impact vessel booking?

The UN number dictates the specific hazard class, which determines which vessels are licensed to carry the cargo. A mismatch between the declared UN number and the actual product composition will cause the shipping line to reject the booking entirely. This error also triggers customs holds, delaying delivery and incurring demurrage charges at the port of loading.

Why do quotes for Petroleum, Oil & Related Products expire so quickly?

The base rate for these goods moves instantly with feedstock price shifts on global exchanges. Additionally, dangerous-goods booking space is limited and fills rapidly. A quote is only valid until the next market tick or until the vessel slot is secured. Delays in confirmation often result in the original price becoming unworkable for the seller.

What is the difference between an IBC and an ISO tank for this cargo?

An IBC is a rigid container suitable for smaller volumes, while an ISO tank is a large, pressurized vessel designed for bulk liquid transport. The packaging choice directly impacts freight costs and vessel acceptance, as some ships do not carry large hazardous tanks. The choice also affects unloading procedures at the destination, requiring specific infrastructure.

Is REACH registration mandatory for importing Petroleum derivatives from France?

For products falling under EU chemical regulations, REACH registration or equivalent compliance in the destination market is often a legal prerequisite. Imports without proper registration status may be seized by customs or refused entry. Buyers must verify that the seller holds the necessary authorizations for the specific chemical identity and impurity profile of the goods.

How does the impurity profile affect the grade designation for this product?

The impurity profile determines whether a product is classified as technical, food, or pharma grade. High levels of specific contaminants can disqualify a batch from higher-value applications, regardless of the primary content percentage. Buyers should request detailed chromatography results to ensure the impurity levels match their end-use requirements.

What role does the safety data sheet play in destination clearance?

The safety data sheet must be formatted exactly for the destination country to satisfy local hazardous materials regulations. It provides the necessary information for emergency responders and customs officials to identify risks and handling requirements. An incomplete or incorrectly formatted document will result in the shipment being held at the border until corrected.
