How does the impurity profile affect the usability of technical grade Petroleum, Oil & Related Products?

The impurity profile determines whether a technical grade material can be used in sensitive applications. Even if the active content percentage meets the specification, trace contaminants like sulfur or heavy metals can poison catalysts or damage equipment. Buyers must request the full analytical report to verify that impurities are within the acceptable limits for their specific processing line.

What happens if the UN number on the dangerous-goods declaration does not match the packing group?

A mismatch between the UN number and the packing group causes immediate rejection by the shipping line. The packing group indicates the degree of danger, and carriers use it to determine stowage requirements and safety protocols. If the declaration lists a lower danger level than the actual product, the cargo will be refused at the port of loading, incurring demurrage and storage fees.

Why is REACH registration critical for Petroleum, Oil & Related Products entering the EU market?

REACH registration is a legal prerequisite for importing chemical substances into the European Union. Without it, the product cannot legally enter the customs territory, regardless of its physical quality. Sellers must provide proof of registration for the specific CAS identity to ensure the buyer can clear the goods through destination customs without legal penalty.

How does feedstock price volatility impact the validity of a quote for Petroleum, Oil & Related Products?

Feedstock price volatility means that a quote for refined products is only valid for a short window. The base cost of crude oil or natural gas feeds moves daily, directly influencing the production cost of the final product. Sellers often attach a validity period to their quotes to protect against sudden shifts in the underlying commodity markets.

What role does dangerous-goods booking space play in the final landed cost?

Dangerous-goods booking space is the primary constraint on freight costs for this category. When space is tight, carriers impose surcharges that can exceed the cost of the product itself. Securing early booking is essential to lock in reasonable freight rates, as last-minute availability is scarce and significantly more expensive due to limited container capacity for hazardous materials.

Why does the choice between drum, IBC, and ISO tank change the freight calculation?

The packing method directly impacts volumetric weight and handling fees. Drums and IBCs are palletized, creating dead space and higher volumetric charges. ISO tanks allow for bulk loading, reducing the number of units shipped but requiring specialized terminal infrastructure. The freight cost varies significantly based on which packing method the carrier charges for, whether by weight or volume.

How does the CAS identity prevent confusion between similar Petroleum, Oil & Related Products listings?

The CAS identity provides a unique numerical identifier for the chemical substance, eliminating ambiguity from generic trade names. Two listings labeled as solvents may contain entirely different chemical structures with different hazards and uses. Verifying the CAS identity ensures that the product matches the exact molecular composition required for your application and regulatory compliance.
