Question 1

How does the chemical assay percentage change the payable weight for niobium shipments?

Accepted Answer

The chemical assay percentage defines the actual metal content within the raw material. Buyers pay based on the pure metal extracted, not the total gross weight of the shipment. A higher assay percentage means more payable metal per tonne, which lowers the effective unit cost. Always compare the assay figures directly in the listing details to ensure you are comparing equivalent metal values across different suppliers.

Question 2

What radiation screening data does the destination require for coltan tantalite ore?

Accepted Answer

Destination authorities require specific radiation screening data to prove the cargo does not contain naturally occurring radioactive materials above safe thresholds. This data usually comes from a pre-shipment inspection report conducted at the loading port. You must provide this report to customs officials before the goods can be unloaded. Without this specific screening proof, the entire container will be held or rejected.

Question 3

How does the mineral export licence affect the timeline for leaving Brazil?

Accepted Answer

The mineral export licence is a mandatory document that must be issued by Brazilian authorities before the cargo can be loaded onto a vessel. Without this licence, the port authority will not allow the shipment to depart. Obtaining this licence can take several days depending on the volume and the specific mineral type. You must confirm the licence status with the seller before finalizing payment to avoid delays.

Question 4

Does the ash content in iron ore reduce the net weight you receive?

Accepted Answer

Yes, ash content is considered inert material that does not contribute to the metal value. Buyers typically deduct the ash percentage from the gross weight to calculate the payable net weight. A higher ash content means you are paying for waste material that will be discarded during smelting. Always check the ash percentage in the listing to understand the true value of the ore.

Question 5

How does the stowage factor determine if you use break-bulk or containers?

Accepted Answer

The stowage factor measures how much space one tonne of cargo occupies. High-density ores like hematite iron ore have a low stowage factor, meaning they fill the weight capacity of a container long before it is full. This often makes break-bulk shipping more efficient for these materials. Low-density minerals may fill the container volume first, making standard containers a viable option.

Question 6

Why is the mill test certificate critical for maca root exports?

Accepted Answer

The mill test certificate provides the official chemical analysis of the maca root, confirming its active compound levels and purity. This document is required by many buyers to verify that the product meets their specific quality standards. Without this certificate, you cannot prove the product's potency or safety to your own customers. Always request this certificate before shipping to ensure compliance with your market's regulations.

Question 7

What happens if the particle size distribution differs from the listing for mica?

Accepted Answer

Particle size distribution affects how the mica processes in manufacturing and its final application performance. If the shipped material has a different mesh size than specified, it may be rejected by the buyer or subject to a price reduction. This discrepancy also impacts the loading density and packaging requirements. Always verify the particle size distribution details in the listing before placing an order.
