Top Exporters of Textile in the World
Import & Export

Textiles are utilized in roofing materials, wire covers, wall coverings, blinds, air ducts, and window screens. Sustainable fibers, like organic cotton, have lower production costs since they consume fewer resources and cause less environmental harm. India exports a variety of goods and raw materials to other countries, with a value of US$29.8 billion between April and December 2021. By 2029, it is anticipated that this market will be valued at more than US$ 209 billion.

China is the world's top exporter of textiles. The Chinese textile industry has had significant growth over the past 20 years and is now one of the foundational sectors of the economy in that nation.

A key source of foreign exchange revenues is the export of textiles and clothing. The nations want to take a piece of the world market so they can establish a foothold in international trade.

The government makes every effort to support the industry's daily expansion. Germany is the world's second-largest exporter of textiles behind China, with an export value of $38.99 billion. Synthetic yarn, knitted clothing fabric, and man-made fiber are among the products that the nation exports well.

Let’s have a look at the list of the world's top exporters of clothing-

China- The total value of China's textile and apparel exports reached US$315.5 billion, an increase of 8.4% year over year. As a result of the war's ban on the import of Western manufactured products, both China's and Japan's cotton industries grew quickly to meet the region's needs. China established the textile-machine-tools industry, which would eventually grow in size enough to supply neighbouring countries as well. This foreshadowed an industry trend of importing technology and exporting finished goods that describe most of the 20th century.

According to the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology, China's textile sector saw significant growth in 2021 as both its sales and earnings increased by double digits (MIIT). Profits for textile companies with annual operating revenue of 20 million yuan ($3.16 million) or more were 267.7 billion yuan in 2021, up 25.4% from the previous year (YoY).

According to government figures, the company's combined operating income climbed by 12.3% YoY to 5.17 trillion yuan in 2021. The textile sector employs more than 8 million people. The majority of the raw materials are bought in local markets. A sizable portion of the output is reserved for the domestic market in addition to the export of primarily higher-quality goods. China is the home of the entire textile production process which makes it the top exporter of textiles.

Germany-  When comparing textile exports by country, Germany comes in second place to China. Germany exported apparel and textiles worth an estimated 35.4 billion euros in 2021. Poland ($4.64B), Austria ($3.62B), Switzerland ($3.17B), France ($3.11B), and the Netherlands ($2.93B) are Germany's top export markets for textiles. Synthetic yarn, knitted clothing fabric, and man-made fiber are among the products that the nation exports well. The majority of German industries are comprised of medium-sized and small firms.

The German garment exporting industry can increase its market share in lucrative economic sectors because of a strong capacity for innovation.  The subindustry "Preparation and spinning of textile fibers" will produce 10.4% of the total.

Bangladesh-

Bangladesh has become a significant rival among the top textile manufacturing countries. Bangladesh's exports are estimated to be worth $38.73 billion in 2020. Interestingly, the nation excels at bulk orders and is the second-largest exporter of textiles for western fast fashion brands.

The combined exports of woven and knitted garments, clothing accessories, and home textiles in July 2022 were $3.984 billion, or 77.05 percent of Bangladesh's overall exports. The readymade garment (RMG) sector, which is currently Bangladesh's top source of export revenue, has been instrumental in helping the nation and its economy recover. The sector is responsible for 83% of the nation's total export revenue. Since the industry accounts for more than 80% of all exports, its reliance on textile exports for national income is enormous. The dedicated workforce in Bangladesh is the reason for the growth of the textile sector.

Vietnam-

Vietnam is one of the top exporters of textiles with a 5.2% market share worldwide; the US, South Korea, Japan, and Europe are the top importers of the nation's textile and apparel exports. Over the past five years, the textile industry has experienced rapid growth, averaging 20–26% yearly growth. Vietnam stands among the largest exporting countries. According to Vietnamese media reports, Truong Van Cam, vice chairman of the Vietnam Textile and Apparel Association (VITAS), the state should swiftly disburse the financial aid package for enterprises and reform the mindset in attracting investment to textile and garment material production to sustain the growth trend. Vietnam's textile and apparel exports brought in $32.750 billion in 2021, up 9.9% from the $29.809 billion in exports the year before. Yarn exports rose by 50.1% to $5.609 billion from $3.736 billion in 2020.

India-

India already dominates the market in terms of production in several industrial sectors, including the manufacture of jute, cotton, and silk. India had the most textile exports in FY22, with a total value of US$44.4 billion. While the USA imports 15% of Indian textiles, Italy imports roughly 16% of them. Exporting clothes from India include khadi, commonly referred to as khaddar. India produces hand-spun and hand-woven fabric known as khadi. One of the oldest textile industries among the most exporting countries in the world is found in India. With a value of $37.11 billion in exports, India is now ranked fifth in the world for textile exports. India has the benefit of a domestic fabric supply because it is the second-largest cotton grower in the world and produces certain rare silk fibers. India has two distinct textile industries: the unorganized handloom and handcraft sector, and the automated industry. India's textile industry is expected to bring in investments worth US$ 120 billion and increase exports to US$ 300 billion by 2025. The garment in India is famous because of the large variety of natural and synthetic fibers and yarns available.

Italy-

Italy is one of the major garment exporters that exported textile and fashion products worth over 193 million euros to France between January and October 2021 and roughly 176 billion euros to Germany. China was the biggest buyer of Italian clothing and textiles outside of Europe, with imports totaling over 166 million euros. Italy benefits from a vast variety of textiles, including linen, cotton, wool, and silk. Italy produces textiles that are heavily focused on exports.

Turkey- Turkish textile makes it a significant nation in the worldwide textile and apparel industry. Recent years have seen a modest increase in Turkey's textile and apparel industries. World Trade Organization data shows that Turkey is the third-largest supplier to the EU. Its exports of woven garments make up 2.73 percent, and knitted apparel accounts for 4.06 percent. With amazing design skills, Turkey's textile sector is thriving.

United States of America- US textile and apparel exports totaled 22.652 billion in 2021. In the first eleven months of last year, U.S. fashion exports increased by 17.38% year over year. From January through November 2021, the value of exports increased to $20.725 billion from $17.656 billion during the same period in 2020, according to data from the Office of Textiles and Apparel, a division of the US Department of Commerce.

Hong Kong- The greatest percentage share of "pieces of apparel and clothing accessories" among Hong Kong's re-exports of "textiles and clothes" in 2021. Hong Kong is among one of the world’s top exporters of clothing that is a major global hub for procuring garments in addition to being a key production hub. Clothing manufacturers in Hong Kong have experience with the procurement of materials, sales and marketing, quality control, logistics, apparel design, and international and domestic rules and regulations. The textile industry in Hong Kong contributes significantly to the nation's economy. High-end textiles from Hong Kong, like printed fabrics, are well-known. Denim is made using a variety of weaving and knitting techniques, including denim weaving, fine-gauge cotton knitting, cotton spinning, and knit-to-shape panel knitting. The ninth-largest exporter in the world is Hong Kong.

Spain- Spain sold textiles and clothing worth US$15.8 billion in 2020. Spain comes in tenth place on the list of top exporters of textiles in the world.
