Question 1

What chemical composition data distinguishes petcoke from other carbon materials?

Accepted Answer

Petcoke is traded based on its fixed carbon content, sulfur percentage and volatile matter. You must ask the seller for the specific assay report that breaks down these elements. Without the sulfur content, you cannot determine if the material meets your combustion or calcination requirements. The listing title rarely includes these figures, so you need to request the full chemical analysis before proceeding.

Question 2

How do I verify the alloy grade for aluminium ingots?

Accepted Answer

Aluminium ingots are specified by their alloy series, such as high purity or specific series alloys. You need to ask for the certificate of analysis that lists the exact percentage of silicon, iron and other trace elements. Different alloy grades have vastly different melting points and mechanical properties. Confirming the exact series prevents you from receiving material that cannot be used in your casting process.

Question 3

What inspection point is critical for iron ore pellets?

Accepted Answer

Iron ore pellets are graded by their iron content, reducibility and abrasion index. The most critical check is the metallurgical performance in your blast furnace or direct reduction plant. You must request the reducibility index and the tumbler index results from the seller. These numbers predict how the pellets will behave under heat and pressure during smelting.

Question 4

How does the land corridor from Zimbabwe affect delivery timelines?

Accepted Answer

Since Zimbabwe is landlocked, all mineral and metal exports must pass through border posts to reach sea ports. Delays at customs or border congestion can add days or weeks to the transit time. You should ask the seller for the current average transit time to your destination port. This information helps you plan your inventory levels and avoid production stoppages due to late arrivals.

Question 5

What packing method is standard for aluminium ingots?

Accepted Answer

Aluminium ingots are typically packed in woven bags or strapped directly onto pallets to prevent oxidation and damage. You need to confirm whether the seller uses unitized loads or loose bundles. Proper packing ensures the ingots arrive in a condition that requires minimal re-melting preparation. Ask for photos of the packing method to verify it meets your handling capabilities.

Question 6

What specification separates raw petcoke from processed petroleum coke?

Accepted Answer

Raw petcoke has higher volatile matter and sulfur content compared to calcined petcoke. You must specify whether you need the raw material for fuel or the calcined grade for anode production. The processing step removes volatiles and increases carbon content. Request the calcination temperature and the final fixed carbon percentage to ensure the material matches your end-use.

Question 7

What documentation proves the iron ore quality before shipment?

Accepted Answer

The certificate of quality issued by an independent surveyor is the primary document for iron ore trades. This document verifies the iron grade, silica content and moisture level at the loading point. You should require a pre-shipment inspection report from a recognized agency. This report protects you from receiving material that does not meet the agreed specifications upon arrival at the destination port.
