How does the ash content specification on an Indonesian Coal row change the price per ton?

Ash content directly impacts the calorific value and combustion efficiency of the coal. A higher ash percentage typically lowers the price per ton because the usable energy content is reduced. Buyers compare quotes by normalizing prices based on the specific ash and moisture levels stated on the row. Ignoring this specification leads to paying premium rates for lower-grade fuel.

What specific environmental permit does my destination country require before clearing Indonesian Coal?

Most destinations require an environmental clearance or import permit specific to solid fossil fuels. This document confirms the coal meets local sulfur and heavy metal limits. Without this permit, customs will hold the shipment at the port. Check your local regulations for the exact name of this clearance before the vessel arrives.

Why does the unit of sale matter when comparing two Indonesian Coal listings?

One listing may quote price per metric ton while another quotes per railway wagon. The unit of sale determines the baseline for cost comparison. A lower price per wagon might actually be more expensive per ton when you account for weight differences. Always convert the unit of sale to a standard weight before comparing quotes.

Who pays for the barge transport from the mine to the loading port in Indonesia?

This cost is usually included in the FOB price or excluded depending on the incoterm. If the seller quotes EXW, you pay for all inland haulage from the mine. If they quote FOB, they typically cover transport to the port. Clarify the exact incoterm to avoid unexpected logistics charges.

What happens if I accept a quote for Indonesian Coal that was posted three months ago?

The price may no longer reflect current market rates or mine output. Coal prices fluctuate with demand and seasonal production changes. An old quote is likely stale and the seller may have sold the inventory. Always request a current offer to ensure the price is valid for your order timeline.

How do moisture levels in Indonesian Coal affect the net weight calculation at discharge?

High moisture content reduces the net dry weight of the cargo upon arrival. Buyers often face weight deductions if the moisture exceeds the agreed specification. The technical specifications listed in the row determine the maximum permissible moisture content for the shipment. Dispute any excessive weight loss by referencing the moisture clause in your contract.

What inspection certificate is mandatory for United States importers bringing in Indonesian Coal?

Importers typically need a certificate of analysis from an independent inspector like SGS or Intertek. This document verifies the grade matches the contract specifications. The destination customs may also require a phytosanitary certificate to confirm the coal is free of pests. Ensure these certificates are issued before the shipment departs.
