Does Ultrafine Copper powder require a different packing method than pp lump scrap?

Yes. Ultrafine Copper powder is a fine particulate that requires sealed, moisture-proof bags or large bulk containers to prevent clumping and oxidation. pp lump scrap is solid and can be loaded into open-top containers or bulk bags without the same sealing requirements. The packing method directly affects the stowage factor and the cost of freight because powder takes up more space per tonne than solid lumps.

What happens if the mill test certificate does not match the alloy designation?

The destination customs or the buyer's quality control team will reject the shipment. The mill test certificate provides the proof of chemical composition that the alloy designation promises. Without matching data, the material cannot be used in its intended manufacturing process, leading to total loss of the goods and potential penalties for non-compliant imports.

How does radiation screening affect the timeline for scrap shipments from Switzerland?

Radiation screening is a mandatory checkpoint for scrap entering many markets. If the shipment triggers an alarm, it is held for further inspection, which delays clearance by days. This screening is distinct from the mineral export licence, which is an administrative document required before the goods even leave the Swiss warehouse. Both documents must be ready to avoid bottlenecks.

Why does moisture content matter more for Copper than for solid Steel Tools?

Moisture adds dead weight that the buyer still pays for, but it does not contribute to the metal value. For Copper scrap or powder, high moisture reduces the net payable weight after drying. Solid Steel Tools are typically non-porous and do not absorb moisture to the same degree, making moisture content a less critical variable for their final landed cost.

When is a mineral export licence required for Metal & Metal Products?

A mineral export licence is required when the goods are classified as scrap or raw mineral derivatives under Swiss export regulations. Manufactured items like finished Steel Tools or assembled Automobile Scrap parts may not require this specific licence if they are considered finished goods. You must check the exact HS code and the nature of the material to determine if this document is needed.

What distinguishes pp roll scrap from pp lump scrap in terms of shipping?

pp roll scrap is compressed into tight rolls, which allows for dense, stable stacking in containers. pp lump scrap is irregular and loose, requiring more space to prevent shifting and damage during transit. The irregular shape of lump scrap increases the risk of voids in the container, which can lead to higher freight costs per tonne compared to the efficient packing of rolls.

How does the chemical assay determine the final payable price for Copper?

The chemical assay lists the percentage of pure copper and the presence of impurities like iron or zinc. Buyers pay a base price for pure copper and deduct value for impurities that cost money to remove during refining. A higher copper percentage in the assay means a higher payable price, while high ash or silica content reduces the net value significantly.
