How does the extraction percentage in a grape must listing change the duty rate for fortified wines?

The extraction percentage determines the alcohol potential and sugar content, which directly influences the customs classification code for fortified wines. A higher extraction level often pushes the product into a higher duty bracket compared to standard table wines. Buyers must verify this percentage in the technical sheet to calculate the true landed cost accurately.

What specific allergen labelling error causes rejection for wine shipments entering the European Union?

Wine shipments face strict allergen labelling rules, particularly for sulphites and fining agents like egg whites or isinglass. If the ingredient labelling in the destination language omits these allergens or lists them incorrectly, customs will seize the pallet. The health certificate must also reflect the exact formulation declared on the bottle labels.

Why does the production date on a tequila listing affect the quote validity more than the order date?

Tequila has a defined shelf life from production date that limits how long it can be stored before quality degradation begins. If the production date is older, the remaining shelf life may not cover the transit window to the destination. Suppliers will discount older stock or refuse to quote if the remaining life is too short for the route.

How does the case count per layer impact the freight cost for empty glass bottles from Spain?

The case count per layer determines the total pallet height and stability, which directly affects how many containers can be loaded. A higher case count per layer reduces the total carton cube occupied, lowering the volumetric weight charge. Buyers should ask for the exact pallet configuration to compare freight costs between different suppliers.

What is the difference between ambient and temperature-controlled shipping for spirits versus dry tobacco?

Spirits are generally stable in ambient conditions, but dry tobacco is sensitive to humidity and temperature fluctuations that can alter its aroma and moisture content. Temperature-controlled shipping for tobacco adds significant cost but preserves the specific blend characteristics. Buyers must specify the storage requirement in the enquiry to get an accurate freight quote.

Does the facility registration number need to match the health certificate for wine exports from Spain?

Yes, the facility registration number on the health certificate must match the exporter's official registration with the Spanish food safety authority. Any discrepancy between the two documents signals a potential compliance failure to destination customs. Buyers should request a copy of the registration certificate to verify this link before placing an order.

How does the additive declaration in a wine listing affect its clearance in a restricted market?

Some markets ban specific fining agents or preservatives that are legal in Spain, such as certain animal-derived products. The additive declaration must list every substance used in the production process, including those removed during filtration. Buyers must cross-reference this list against their local regulations to avoid rejection at the port.
