How do I distinguish between raw gum and processed resin?

The listings often file both under the same broad category. Raw gum arrives in lumps or tears with high impurity levels. Processed resin is washed, bleached, or sieved to meet specific solubility standards. Check the product description for terms like washed, purified, or mesh size. If the listing lacks these details, assume it is raw material requiring further cleaning at your facility.

What does Opponax gum require that Arabic Gum does not?

Opponax gum is harder and less soluble than Arabic Gum. It often requires longer soaking times or specific solvents to reach the desired viscosity. Buyers sourcing Opponax must define the exact viscosity target in their enquiry. Arabic Gum buyers typically focus on color and particle size. Confusing the two leads to quotes for a material that will not dissolve in your process.

Why do Myrrah Gum listings omit clarity grades?

Sellers in this region often file Myrrah Gum under generic botanical headers. They rarely specify clarity or oil content in the title. The trade relies on visual inspection or lab tests to determine grade. You must ask for the oil percentage and resin content directly. Assuming standard grades leads to receiving low-grade oleoresin instead of high-quality gum.

How does South Sudan's landlocked status affect shipping quotes?

Goods must travel by road to ports in Kenya, Uganda, or Sudan. Transit time adds significant cost and risk compared to direct sea freight. Quotes must include road haulage to the border and export clearance fees. A CIF quote to Mombasa includes these costs. A FOB quote from Juba includes only the trucking to the port of exit.

What paperwork is unique to exporting botanicals from here?

Exporters must provide a phytosanitary certificate issued by the national plant protection organization. This certifies the goods are free from pests and diseases. Destination countries often require additional fumigation certificates if the goods are packed in wood. Without these documents, customs will hold the shipment. Always confirm the specific phytosanitary requirements of your destination country before ordering.

Why are quotes for Opponax gum hard to compare?

Sellers use different bases for pricing, such as ex-warehouse, ex-truck, or delivered. The moisture content is rarely stated, which drastically affects the actual weight of pure gum. One quote may be for dry, clean gum, while another is for wet, sandy material. Ask for the moisture percentage and impurity level to normalize the price per kilogram of pure resin.

What happens if I source Myrrah under raw harvests?

You will receive crude resin mixed with bark, sand, and tree fragments. Myrrah gum requires careful sorting to remove non-resinous parts before it can be used in perfumery or pharmaceuticals. The processing cost can exceed the purchase price. Specify that you need hand-sorted or machine-cleaned Myrrah to avoid receiving unprocessed crude material.
