Question 1

How does the documentation differ between Chemicals & Allied Products and Petroleum, Oil & Related Products from South Africa?

Accepted Answer

Chemicals & Allied Products listings typically require a Dangerous Goods Declaration with the correct UN number and packing group classification. Petroleum, Oil & Related Products focus on quality certificates detailing viscosity, flash point, and sulfur content. The chemical branch demands safety data sheets, while the petroleum branch requires assay reports. Both branches require standard commercial invoices, but the regulatory burden differs significantly based on the hazard class or fuel grade.

Question 2

What specific grade detail is missing from a thin listing for sulphur granules?

Accepted Answer

A thin listing for sulphur granules usually omits the purity percentage and particle size distribution. Buyers need to know if the product meets agricultural grade or industrial grade specifications. Without the ash content or moisture limit stated, the quote is unreliable. You must ask the seller for the specific assay report that confirms the granule size and chemical purity before proceeding.

Question 3

Why does a listing for Crude And Refined Soybean Oil need more than just the name?

Accepted Answer

The term covers two vastly different products with distinct handling requirements. Crude oil requires filtration and refining upon arrival, while refined oil is ready for use but may need specific packaging to prevent oxidation. You must determine if the listing specifies free fatty acid content or peroxide value. These parameters dictate whether the product is suitable for your intended application and storage conditions.

Question 4

What packing requirement distinguishes Marine Equipment & Machinery from general Industrial Supplies?

Accepted Answer

Marine Equipment & Machinery often requires corrosion-resistant packing or wooden crates treated for international shipping standards. General Industrial Supplies might use standard cardboard or pallets. You must verify if the machinery includes anti-corrosion vapor barrier packaging. The listing should state if the equipment is disassembled for container loading or shipped as a complete unit, which affects freight costs and handling.

Question 5

What specification must be confirmed for Raw & Processed Leather before quoting?

Accepted Answer

You must confirm the tanning method, such as chrome or vegetable tanning, and the hide origin. The listing should state the exact weight range per hide and the thickness in millimeters. Without these details, the price per square foot is meaningless. You also need to know if the leather is wet blue or finished, as this determines the next stage of your manufacturing process.

Question 6

How does sourcing Pet Bottle Scrap from South Africa differ in inspection?

Accepted Answer

Pet Bottle Scrap requires verification of the PET grade, such as PET clear or PET colored, and the contamination level. Inspections focus on the presence of non-PET materials like PVC or labels. The listing should specify if the scrap is washed or unwashed. You must request a sample to check the density and melting index, as these factors directly impact the recycling efficiency and final product quality.

Question 7

What packing detail is critical for Alfalfa/lucerne Hay exports from South Africa?

Accepted Answer

The listing must specify if the hay is baled or in bulk, and the moisture content percentage. High moisture can cause spontaneous combustion during transit, so the seller must declare the drying level. You should also verify if the hay is wrapped in plastic to protect against rain. The bale weight and size affect container loading capacity and freight calculation, so these dimensions are essential for an accurate quote.
