Question 1

How do I distinguish between Livestock & Animal Products and Processed Food when sourcing ostrich eggs?

Accepted Answer

Live ostrich eggs are classified under Livestock & Animal Products because they are biological material requiring specific temperature controls and veterinary health certificates for export. Once the eggs are cleaned, graded, and packaged for long-term shelf stability, they may fall under Processed Food. The key distinction is whether the item is still biologically active and requires cold chain logistics from the farm gate.

Question 2

What specific export documentation is required for Canola Oil leaving South Africa?

Accepted Answer

Canola Oil requires a certificate of analysis confirming free fatty acid levels and a phytosanitary certificate if the oil is derived directly from raw seeds without full refining. You must verify if the seller provides a certificate of origin for tariff purposes. The documentation chain differs significantly from live cattle, which requires veterinary health inspections rather than laboratory analysis of chemical composition.

Question 3

Why does sourcing Infant Formula Milk under Livestock & Animal Products lead to errors?

Accepted Answer

Infant formula is a manufactured good subject to strict food safety regulations, not a raw agricultural product. Listing it under Livestock & Animal Products is incorrect and indicates a seller who may not understand the sanitary and labeling requirements for human consumption. You should only source infant nutrition from the Processed Food branch where manufacturers hold the necessary food safety certifications.

Question 4

What is the primary difference in handling between OSTRICH CHICKS and Canola Oil?

Accepted Answer

Live ostrich chicks require specialized livestock transport with temperature and ventilation controls, plus pre-export quarantine and veterinary certification. Canola oil is a liquid commodity shipped in bulk tanks or flexi-tanks with no biological containment needs. The logistical cost and regulatory burden for live animals are substantially higher than for processed edible oils.

Question 5

How do I know if a Bar Product listing is actually a finished consumer good?

Accepted Answer

Bar Products should contain finished items ready for retail sale, such as chocolate bars or snack bars, with full nutritional labeling. If the listing describes raw ingredients or bulk commodities, it is misfiled. Verify that the seller provides packaging specifications and shelf-life data, which are irrelevant for bulk agricultural commodities but critical for bar products.

Question 6

What documentation is specific to live cattle exports from South Africa?

Accepted Answer

Live cattle require a veterinary health certificate issued by the South African Department of Agriculture, confirming freedom from specific diseases. You must also arrange for livestock export permits and ensure the transport vessel meets animal welfare standards. This documentation chain is entirely distinct from that required for processed food items or edible oils.

Question 7

Why do two quotes for OSTRICH EGGS and Canola Oil resist direct comparison?

Accepted Answer

The valuation metrics for these goods are fundamentally different. Ostrich eggs are priced per unit based on viability and incubation stage, while Canola Oil is priced per ton based on chemical grade and market index. Comparing them directly is impossible because one is a biological asset and the other is a refined commodity with different quality determinants.
