Question 1

Does a 1 Ply Face Mask need to be sterile for general public use?

Accepted Answer

No, a 1 Ply Face Mask for general public use does not require sterile status. Non-sterile lots are standard for community protection and are cheaper to produce and ship. However, if the destination market classifies the item as a medical device, sterile packaging may be mandatory. Always check the protection standard class required by your local health authority before ordering non-sterile goods.

Question 2

How does batch and expiry segregation affect the shipment?

Accepted Answer

Batch and expiry segregation ensures that older lots are shipped first to maximize shelf life at the destination. If batches are mixed in the same container, inspectors may reject the entire load if one lot is near expiration. Clear segregation prevents partial rejections and reduces warehousing costs for the buyer.

Question 3

What happens if the notified-body approval expires during transit?

Accepted Answer

If the notified-body approval expires during transit, the shipment cannot clear customs in markets requiring active certification. The buyer must ensure the approval remains valid for the entire duration of the shipping process. Delays in transit can cause approvals to lapse, leading to seizure of the goods.

Question 4

Why is humidity control critical for 1 Ply Face Mask?

Accepted Answer

Humidity control protects the melt-blown layer in a 1 Ply Face Mask from degrading before use. High humidity can compromise the filtration efficiency and damage the sterile barrier if the lot is sterile. Proper humidity control maintains the product's integrity from the factory floor in Poland to the final destination.

Question 5

Can a Disposable Masks Ready Stock listing ignore protection standards?

Accepted Answer

A Disposable Masks Ready Stock listing cannot ignore protection standards because customs clearance depends on them. Even if the product is marketed as ready stock, it must meet the destination's PPE or medical-device requirements. Buyers should verify the specific protection standard class on the row, not just the product name.

Question 6

What traceability documents are needed for a sterile lot?

Accepted Answer

A sterile lot requires full batch traceability documents linking the production batch to the sterilization records. These documents must align with the notified-body approval certificates. Missing traceability data will result in the shipment being held at the border, regardless of the product's quality.

Question 7

How does material thickness impact the protection standard class?

Accepted Answer

Material thickness directly impacts the protection standard class by determining the filtration efficiency of the 1 Ply Face Mask. Thicker materials often provide higher filtration but may reduce breathability. Buyers must match the thickness specification to the performance requirements of their target market to avoid under-specification.
