How does moisture content in sulphur granulars affect the payable weight?

Moisture reduces the net dry weight of the material, so buyers pay for the actual solids, not the water. Sellers measure the initial moisture level, and the contract usually specifies a deduction rate for every percentage point above a baseline. If the sulphur arrives wetter than agreed, the buyer receives a credit or pays less, ensuring the chemical assay reflects the true dry mass delivered.

What specific data does the mill test certificate provide for chrome ore?

The mill test certificate provides the precise chemical assay for chromium content and the ratio of chrome to iron. It also lists the silica and alumina percentages, which are critical for smelter calculations. This document is the primary evidence that the lot meets the specified grade, and discrepancies here can lead to price adjustments or rejection at the destination port.

Why do radiation screening results matter for magnetite iron ore exports?

Magnetite iron ore can sometimes trigger false positives in radiation screening equipment due to natural background radiation. Buyers need to know if the specific mine source has a known radiation profile to avoid delays at customs. Clear screening data prevents the cargo from being held for additional testing, which adds demurrage costs and delays production schedules at the smelter.

How does the stowage factor determine if you use a container or break-bulk?

The stowage factor measures how much space a tonne of material occupies. Dense ores like lead ore often reach the maximum weight allowance of a container long before the box is full, making break-bulk vessels more efficient for large volumes. Lighter materials or concentrates might fill the container by volume, allowing for more compact shipping and lower freight costs per tonne.

What happens if the scrap contamination level in manganese ore exceeds the contract limit?

Excess scrap contamination introduces unwanted metals and impurities that degrade the final alloy quality. The buyer typically rejects the lot or negotiates a significant price reduction to cover the cost of additional processing. Contracts define the maximum allowable percentage of foreign material, and independent inspection reports verify compliance before the cargo is loaded onto the vessel.

How does the mineral export licence impact the timing of the shipment?

The mineral export licence is a regulatory requirement that must be obtained before the cargo can legally leave Poland. Delays in processing this licence can push the vessel departure date, causing the buyer to miss production windows. Buyers should confirm the seller has secured this licence early in the negotiation to ensure the timeline remains realistic and the quote remains valid.

Why is the particle size distribution critical for bauxite used in alumina production?

Bauxite with incorrect particle size distribution can cause blockages in processing plants or reduce the efficiency of the refining process. Buyers specify a narrow range of lump sizes to ensure consistent handling and reaction rates. Sellers must sieve and grade the material to meet these specifications, as fines or oversized chunks can lead to operational penalties at the refinery.
