Does the moisture content in the metal scrap affect the payable weight?

Yes, moisture adds dead weight that you pay for but cannot process. Sellers often list the material as wet or dry. You should ask for the dry weight or a deduction percentage for moisture. This ensures you are paying only for the actual metal content that enters your furnace or processing line.

How do I verify the alloy standard designation in the mill test certificate?

The mill test certificate lists the specific chemical assay and alloy standard designation. Compare these values against your mill's intake requirements. If the chemical assay deviates even slightly, the lot may be rejected by your furnace. Ensure the certificate matches the physical grade you ordered.

What radiation screening proof is needed for scrap metal imports?

Destination customs usually require a radiation screening report for scrap metal imports. This test proves the material is free from radioactive contamination. You must obtain this document before the shipment arrives. Without it, the cargo will be held or returned at the port of entry.

Why does the stowage factor matter for container loading?

The stowage factor determines how much space a ton of material occupies. Dense metal products fill the container's weight limit before reaching volume capacity. This forces you to use break-bulk shipping or pay for underutilized space. Understanding this factor helps you calculate accurate freight costs.

How long is a price quote valid for Norwegian metal exports?

Quotes for Metal & Metal Products from Norway are typically valid for only a few days. Prices ride global indices that shift rapidly. You must secure the order quickly. Waiting too long means the quoted price no longer reflects the current market value.

What is the role of the mineral export licence in this trade?

A mineral export licence is mandatory for shipping these goods from Norway. It authorizes the removal of the resource from the country. You cannot clear customs without this document. Ensure the seller has obtained the licence before you pay any deposit or arrange transport.

How does ash content impact the valuation of metal scrap?

Ash content represents non-metallic impurities that reduce the usable yield. High ash content means you get less recoverable metal per ton. Buyers deduct the value of ash from the payable weight. Always check the ash percentage in the chemical assay to avoid overpaying for waste material.
