Question 1

How do contamination levels in ABS computer scrap differ from PET bottle flakes in terms of destination acceptance?

Accepted Answer

ABS computer scrap often contains mixed plastics and non-plastic components like metal contacts, requiring stricter separation before export. PET bottle flakes are typically washed and sorted by color, but may retain labels or adhesives. Destination markets set different maximum thresholds for these contaminants. A buyer must check the specific purity percentage stated in the listing against their local recycling standards.

Question 2

What distinguishes the grading of aluminum UBC scrap from general industrial metals in Myanmar exports?

Accepted Answer

Aluminum used beverage can scrap is light and bulky, often shredded to reduce volume for shipping. General industrial metals are denser and may be sold as whole units or heavy scrap. The density difference affects freight calculation significantly. Sellers should specify if the aluminum is shredded or baled, as this impacts the price per ton.

Question 3

Why might a quote for HDPE blue drum regrind be higher than for general plastic bales?

Accepted Answer

HDPE blue drum regrind requires specific sorting to maintain color consistency and material integrity. The regrinding process adds labor and energy costs compared to simple baling. Buyers often pay a premium for consistent blue flakes because they are easier to sort for specific end-use products. The listing should state if the regrind is washed or unwashed.

Question 4

How does the origin of BOPP printed paper scrap affect its recyclability in destination markets?

Accepted Answer

BOPP printed paper often contains inks and coatings that complicate the pulping process. Some destination markets reject heavily printed paper unless it is sorted by ink type. The moisture content of the paper also affects its weight and storage stability. Sellers should declare the ink type and moisture level to avoid rejection at the destination port.

Question 5

What paperwork is typically required when exporting ABS or PET scrap from Myanmar?

Accepted Answer

Exporters usually provide a commercial invoice, packing list, and bill of lading. Some destinations require a certificate of origin to determine tariff rates. Environmental agencies may demand proof that the scrap meets recycling standards. The seller should confirm which documents are included in the quote price.

Question 6

How does moisture content in plastic flakes impact the landed cost calculation?

Accepted Answer

Moisture adds weight that the buyer pays for but cannot process. High moisture content can lead to mold growth during transit, damaging the material. Buyers often negotiate a price adjustment based on the actual moisture percentage at the destination. The listing should state the typical moisture range for the batch.

Question 7

What specific inspection points do buyers check for aluminum UBC scrap before shipment?

Accepted Answer

Buyers inspect for non-aluminum contaminants like steel caps or plastic liners. The size of the shredded pieces must match the buyer's processing equipment. Density tests ensure the material is not mixed with heavier metals. Sellers should provide recent inspection reports or allow third-party verification before loading.
