Question 1

How does moisture content in Magnetite Iron Ore affect the payable weight?

Accepted Answer

Buyers often pay for the dry metric ton, but the shipment arrives with inherent moisture. If the moisture level exceeds the agreed limit in the contract, the supplier may deduct the excess weight from the final invoice. You must specify the maximum allowable moisture percentage in your enquiry to ensure you are not paying for water weight that will be lost during processing.

Question 2

What is the difference between a mill test certificate and a certificate of origin for this trade?

Accepted Answer

A mill test certificate provides the technical proof of the chemical assay and physical properties, confirming the material matches the grade you ordered. The certificate of origin is a customs document that proves where the goods were extracted or processed. Both are required, but they serve different purposes: one satisfies the technical buyer and the other satisfies the customs officer.

Question 3

Why do quotes for Phosphate Rock become stale faster than other minerals?

Accepted Answer

Phosphate Rock prices are tightly linked to global fertilizer demand and energy costs, which fluctuate daily. Suppliers rarely hold a fixed price for more than a few days because the underlying commodity index moves too quickly. You should treat any quote as valid only for the immediate period and expect to re-quote if the order is delayed.

Question 4

How does the particle size distribution of Bentonite influence its industrial use?

Accepted Answer

Bentonite is valued for its swelling properties, which depend heavily on how fine the powder is ground. A listing that does not specify the mesh size or particle distribution may deliver a product that does not activate properly in drilling mud or casting applications. You must request the particle size data sheet to verify it meets your process requirements.

Question 5

What role does the stowage factor play when shipping Quartz?

Accepted Answer

The stowage factor determines how much space a tonne of Quartz occupies in a container or vessel. If the material is dense, you may hit the vessel's maximum weight capacity before the hold is full. This forces you to pay for unused volume or ship more expensive break-bulk freight, directly impacting the landed cost of the project.

Question 6

Why is scrap contamination a major issue for Mica shipments?

Accepted Answer

Mica is often mined in areas with mixed geological layers, leading to physical contamination from other rocks or debris. Destination countries have strict radiation and purity screening that can reject lots containing non-mica materials. You need to ensure the supplier has removed all scrap contamination to avoid rejection at the port of entry.

Question 7

How does the ash content in Silica Sand affect its suitability for glass making?

Accepted Answer

Glass manufacturers require silica sand with very low ash content to prevent defects in the final transparent product. High ash levels can introduce impurities that discolor the glass or weaken its structure. You must compare the ash percentage in the listing against your technical specifications to ensure the sand is suitable for high-quality glass production.
