How do assay reports differ from temper certificates in this trade?

An assay report details the elemental composition and purity of ores and minerals, which is critical for smelting yields. A temper certificate describes the mechanical properties and hardness of fabricated metals like steel or aluminium. You need the assay for raw material valuation and the temper for structural integrity in fabrication. Confusing the two leads to purchasing untestable raw stock or misjudging the strength of finished components.

What specific packing risk exists for cable scrap exports from Greece?

Cable scrap, such as Pe/alu or Xlpe types, often contains mixed insulation materials that can degrade during transit if not bundled correctly. Loose strands can shift and damage the cargo or the vessel. Ensure the seller specifies whether the scrap is baled, loose, or shredded, as this affects stowage and handling at the Greek port of exit.

Why is the export license requirement different for ores versus metals?

Raw ores often fall under stricter environmental and strategic resource controls in Greece, requiring specific extraction permits. Fabricated metal products usually face fewer restrictions unless they are dual-use items. You must confirm if the seller holds the necessary export authorization for the specific mineral or metal type before finalizing any agreement.

How does the physical state of scrap electric motors affect shipping?

Scrap electric motors, including Elmo types, may contain residual oils or capacitors that pose safety hazards during transport. These components must be drained or removed to meet maritime safety regulations. Ask the seller to confirm the condition of the motors, specifically whether they are drained and cleaned, to avoid rejection at the destination port.

What makes a quote for Etalbond sheets uncomparable without alloy data?

Etalbond sheets are aluminium-pe composite materials, and their performance depends entirely on the alloy grade of the aluminium layer. Without the specific alloy number, you cannot assess corrosion resistance or strength. A quote lacking this detail is generic and does not reflect the actual material properties you will receive.

Which Greek port handles which type of mineral export?

Piraeus primarily handles containerized and bulk processed metals and smaller mineral shipments. Thessaloniki often manages larger bulk ore exports due to its rail connections to northern mining regions. Verify which port the seller uses, as this impacts transit time and inland logistics costs for your specific cargo type.

What document proves the chemical content of a mineral listing?

The independent assay report is the standard document that verifies the elemental composition of ores and minerals. It is issued by a third-party laboratory and details the exact percentage of valuable elements. Do not rely on the seller's self-declared grades; require the assay report to validate the price and suitability for your processing plant.
