How does the chemical assay on a Coltan listing differ from the alloy designation?

The chemical assay specifies the exact percentage of tantalum and niobium content, which dictates the metal's purity and market value. An alloy designation refers to the specific metallurgical blend intended for downstream manufacturing. Buyers must request the assay report to verify if the material meets the strict purity requirements for electronics production, as generic listings often omit these critical percentages.

What radiation screening is required for mineral powder entering the destination?

Destination customs require proof that the mineral powder is free from naturally occurring radioactive materials. This screening process ensures the material does not pose a health risk during handling or processing. Sellers must provide documentation confirming the results of gamma spectrometry tests. Without this proof, the shipment will be rejected or destroyed at the port of entry.

Why does a quote for Fluorspar expire in days rather than weeks?

The price of Fluorspar is tied to volatile commodity indices that change daily based on global supply and demand. Unlike manufactured goods, raw mineral prices do not remain fixed for long periods. Sellers hold quotes open for only a few days to protect themselves from market fluctuations. Delays in finalizing the order can result in significant price increases.

How does the stowage factor affect container loading for Phosphate Rock?

Phosphate Rock is dense and heavy, meaning the container reaches its weight limit long before it is full. The stowage factor determines how much volume the material occupies per tonne. Buyers must calculate whether the shipment will be weight-constrained or volume-constrained to estimate freight costs accurately. This calculation is critical for break-bulk versus container decisions.

What is the difference between a mill test certificate and a chemical assay?

A mill test certificate is an official document issued by the processing facility that verifies the physical and chemical properties of the lot at the time of production. A chemical assay is the specific laboratory analysis detailing the elemental composition. The certificate serves as the legal proof that the goods match the assay results provided in the quotation.

How does scrap contamination affect the acceptance of Mica Products?

Scrap contamination introduces foreign metals or non-mineral debris into the bulk material. Destination inspectors screen for this contamination to ensure the purity standards for electrical or cosmetic applications are met. Even small amounts of scrap can lead to rejection or heavy fines. Sellers must demonstrate that their sorting and washing processes effectively remove impurities.

What specific export licence is needed for Talc from France?

France requires a mineral export licence for certain raw materials to control resource depletion and environmental impact. This licence must be obtained before the goods can legally leave the country. Buyers should verify that the seller has secured this documentation, as its absence will delay shipment and potentially void the contract. The licence ensures compliance with national mining regulations.
