Question 1

How do I distinguish a coffee listing from a livestock listing in the results?

Accepted Answer

Look for the sub-category tag immediately above the title. A listing for Green Arabica Coffee will sit under Processed Food and specify roast level, moisture content, or defect count. A listing for Live Ethiopian cattle or sheep offal sits under Livestock & Animal Products and details weight, age, or veterinary health status. Do not confuse the two branches as their inspection requirements are completely separate.

Question 2

What happens if I source live goat under Processed Food?

Accepted Answer

You will receive quotes for cured, dried, or canned products rather than live animals or fresh carcasses. Sellers in the Processed Food branch cannot supply live livestock because they lack the necessary veterinary permits and transport infrastructure. You must return to the search and open the Livestock & Animal Products branch to find sellers who handle live animals or fresh meat cuts.

Question 3

What paperwork does Ethiopia issue for exported Green Arabica Coffee?

Accepted Answer

Exporters typically provide a certificate of analysis confirming moisture levels and defect counts against the grade. You may also need a phytosanitary certificate to prove the beans are free from pests and diseases. Check if the seller includes roasting and packaging services or if they are exporting raw green beans only, as this changes the inspection needs at your destination port.

Question 4

What is different about sourcing Live Ethiopian cattle versus goat offal?

Accepted Answer

Live cattle require veterinary certificates confirming health status and vaccination records for entry. Goat offal, being an internal organ, may face stricter sanitary controls or bans in certain destination markets. Verify if the seller provides the offal fresh, frozen, or cured, as each state requires different handling and documentation upon arrival.

Question 5

What goes wrong if you ignore sub-categories for livestock items?

Accepted Answer

You risk receiving quotes for processed meat products instead of live animals or fresh carcasses. The logistics for moving live cattle involve specialized transport and veterinary checkpoints, while processed goat products require cold chain logistics. Confusing these branches leads to incorrect shipping terms and potential rejection at customs due to mismatched documentation.

Question 6

Why can't I compare a coffee quote with a cattle quote directly?

Accepted Answer

Coffee is priced by weight and grade based on moisture and defect counts. Cattle is priced by live weight or carcass yield and depends heavily on veterinary health. The cost drivers are entirely different, making any direct price comparison meaningless. You must evaluate each quote against the specific grading standards of its respective product branch.

Question 7

What specific risk arises with Ethiopian offal exports?

Accepted Answer

Destination countries often have strict bans or quotas on ruminant offal due to disease risks. Even if the seller provides a veterinary certificate, your local regulations may prohibit the entry of sheep rumen or other specific organs. Always verify the import restrictions for the exact part of the animal before requesting a quote to avoid shipment rejection.
