How do I decide between Plastic Products and Paper & Paper Products for scrap sourcing?

Choose based on the material's physical state and required processing. Plastic Products like ABS or BOPP scrap require knowledge of polymer grades and contamination levels, often needing washing or shredding before reuse. Paper & Paper Products like OCC waste paper depend on fiber quality, weight, and moisture content, requiring different handling to prevent mold. Your end-use determines which branch holds the relevant specifications.

What happens if I source ABS scrap under the wrong sub-category?

You will encounter listings that mix general plastic waste with specific polymer grades, making quality assessment impossible. ABS requires specific impact resistance and color consistency data that general plastic scrap listings omit. Sourcing under the wrong branch means you lack the technical details needed to verify if the material meets your manufacturing standards, leading to potential production failures.

What specific documentation does El Salvador issue for mixed scrap exports?

El Salvador issues export declarations that detail the specific commodity codes for each material type. For scrap like Electric Motor or PU Foam, these documents must accurately reflect the waste state versus reusable components. Buyers should verify that the export paperwork matches the physical condition described in the listing, as misclassification can delay customs clearance at the destination port.

Why do quotes for Memory Foam differ from general PU Foam?

Memory Foam requires density and resilience specifications that standard PU Foam listings often omit. General PU Foam quotes may assume industrial insulation grades, while Memory Foam needs consumer-grade comfort metrics. Sellers frequently file both under the same broad category, so you must check the sub-category for details on foam density and flame retardancy requirements.

What information is missing from OCC Waste Paper listings that I must ask for?

Listings often omit the specific fiber length and contamination percentage, which are critical for paper recycling processes. You must ask for the exact moisture content and the type of inks or coatings present. Without these details, you cannot calculate the yield or determine if the material requires extensive preprocessing before pulping.

How does thin inventory in this category affect order sizing?

Thin inventory means suppliers may not have consistent batches available for large orders. You might need to split a large requirement into multiple smaller purchases from different sellers. This increases administrative overhead and complicates quality control, as each batch may have slightly different characteristics. Confirm batch availability before committing to a large volume.

What goes wrong if I source auto parts without checking the sub-category?

You may receive parts that are incompatible with modern vehicle systems or lack necessary certifications. The Automobile & Auto Accessories branch contains both new and used items with vastly different lifespans. Without checking the specific sub-category, you risk receiving obsolete components that do not meet current safety or performance standards for your market.
