How does the CAS identity change the classification of a pesticide listing?

The CAS identity is the unique chemical registry number that defines the exact molecular structure of the substance. Buyers use this to distinguish between similar compounds that share a common trade name but have different toxicological profiles. It ensures the listing matches the specific active ingredient required for the crop protection program.

What happens if the UN number on the shipping papers does not match the packing group?

A mismatch between the UN number and the packing group indicates a fundamental error in the dangerous goods declaration. Carriers will reject the booking because the packing group defines the level of danger, which dictates the stowage requirements on the vessel. This error causes immediate delays and potential fines at the origin port before the cargo even loads.

Why do quotes for urea expire faster than standard agricultural seeds?

Urea is classified as a dangerous good due to its potential to release ammonia under certain conditions. This classification requires specialized handling and limited dangerous goods space on vessels. When booking space for this hazard class fills up, the quote becomes invalid because the freight cost cannot be secured at the original rate, unlike non-hazardous seeds.

How does the impurity profile affect the suitability of a fertilizer for sensitive crops?

The impurity profile lists non-active elements that may be toxic or harmful to specific plant types. For example, high chloride or heavy metal content can damage sensitive root systems or soil biology. Buyers must check this profile to ensure the material meets the agronomic requirements of their specific crop rotation plan.

What role does the safety data sheet play in destination clearance for these products?

The safety data sheet provides the technical data required by destination authorities to assess the risks of the imported material. It must be formatted according to local regulatory standards to be accepted by customs and health agencies. An incorrectly formatted sheet leads to rejection, forcing the seller to reprint and resubmit documents, delaying the entire supply chain.

How does the choice of IBC versus drum impact the freight calculation for these chemicals?

Intermediate bulk containers offer higher volume efficiency but may face stricter handling requirements at transshipment ports compared to standard drums. The hazard class of the content determines which vessel types can carry the specific container configuration. This choice directly influences the total freight cost and the availability of suitable carriers for the booking.

What specific labelling detail stops a shipment of pesticide formulations from entering?

Missing or incorrect hazard pictograms on the primary packaging often trigger immediate rejection by destination customs. These labels must align with the Globally Harmonized System adopted by the importing country. Any discrepancy between the label and the safety data sheet raises red flags for regulators, resulting in the shipment being held for inspection or returned.
