Question 1

How do I distinguish a rough gold dore bar listing from a finished jewellery piece?

Accepted Answer

Rough gold dore bars are sold by weight with assay certificates, not by piece count or style. Finished jewellery is listed by unit with specific design details. If the listing mentions bars, dore, or bullion, it belongs in Gems and Jewellery as a raw material trade, not as a fashion accessory. Misclassifying these leads to incorrect customs duties and inspection failures.

Question 2

What packing difference separates PET bottle scrap from fashion garments?

Accepted Answer

PET bottle scrap is compressed into dense bales for bulk handling and requires moisture protection to prevent contamination. Garments are packed in cartons or polybags to preserve appearance and prevent creasing. Confusing these packing methods results in freight quotes that ignore the density differences and handling requirements of each material type.

Question 3

Why does the sub-category change the required inspection point?

Accepted Answer

Gems and Jewellery require assay verification and weight checks to confirm purity and value. Garment and Fashion Accessories need quality checks for stitching, fabric weight, and dimensional accuracy. Cosmetics Products require batch testing for chemical compliance. Inspecting the wrong attribute wastes time and misses the actual defect that would cause rejection at destination.

Question 4

What documentation is specific to raw gold exports from Cameroon?

Accepted Answer

Raw gold and dore bars require specific export permits and assay reports from the national mint or authorized refiners. These documents prove the metal content and legal origin. Fashion garments do not need assay certificates but require commercial invoices and packing lists that match the physical items exactly.

Question 5

How does the trade lane affect gold dore bar shipping?

Accepted Answer

Gold dore bars are high-value, low-volume items often shipped via secure courier or armored transport rather than standard freight. Fashion accessories and scrap materials use standard container shipping. Assuming standard freight for precious metals ignores the security requirements and insurance costs that are mandatory for this specific commodity.

Question 6

What mistake happens when sourcing cosmetics under fashion accessories?

Accepted Answer

Cosmetics Products require detailed ingredient lists, batch numbers, and regulatory compliance certificates for the destination market. Fashion accessories only need material composition and safety data for textiles or leather. Placing cosmetics in the wrong branch hides the critical chemical safety data needed for customs clearance.

Question 7

Which field on a row determines if the quote is comparable?

Accepted Answer

The unit of measure is the single field that determines comparability. A quote for gold bars is per kilogram or troy ounce. A quote for garments is per piece or dozen. A quote for scrap is per metric ton. Comparing prices across these units without converting leads to massive budget errors.
