Does the carat weight on a rough diamond listing include the cut loss?

No. The carat weight stated in a rough diamond listing refers to the uncut stone. The actual yield depends on the cut and clarity grading required by the buyer. You must calculate the potential weight of the finished gem based on the rough specifications. The seller will not guarantee a specific final weight until the cutting process is complete and inspected.

What proof of conflict-free origin is required for rough diamonds in Cameroon?

The Kimberley Process certificate is the mandatory document for rough diamonds. It verifies that the stones are not funding conflict. Without this certificate, the shipment cannot clear customs in most major markets. The seller must provide the original certificate or a verified copy before the goods leave Cameroon. Ensure the certificate number matches the physical lot.

How does hallmarking affect gold bars from Cameroon?

Hallmarking rules in the destination country dictate the accepted purity levels for gold bars. A bar stamped with a local hallmark may not be recognized in markets requiring specific international standards. You must verify that the metal purity meets your destination's legal requirements. The seller should provide assay results that align with your local hallmarking regulations.

Why is treatment disclosure critical for sapphire listings?

Treatment disclosure reveals if a sapphire has been heated or treated to enhance color or clarity. Untreated stones command a significantly higher price than treated ones. The listing must state the treatment status clearly. If undisclosed, the stone's value drops, and it may not meet your quality standards. Always ask for a laboratory report that confirms the treatment history.

How does secure carriage impact the cost of gold dore bars?

Secure carriage and insurance dominate the landed cost for gold dore bars. The weight is irrelevant to freight, but the value determines the insurance premium. Specialized couriers provide armed escort and tracked containers. These security measures add significant cost to the shipment. You must factor these security fees into your total landed cost calculation.

What happens if the Kimberley Process certificate is missing?

Without the Kimberley Process certificate, the rough diamonds will be seized at the destination port. The certificate is non-negotiable for legal entry into most countries. The seller must issue this document before shipment. If the certificate is absent, the transaction is void, and the goods cannot be cleared. Verify the certificate details match the invoice and packing list.

Does the setting and finish affect the wholesale price of jewellery?

Yes. The setting and finish determine the craftsmanship quality and labor cost. A complex setting with high polish commands a higher price than a simple finish. The listing should describe the setting type and finish quality. These details impact the durability and aesthetic value. Buyers should compare these specifics to ensure they are paying for the correct level of craftsmanship.
