Question 1

How do I distinguish a Chemicals listing from a Petroleum listing in this category?

Accepted Answer

Check the sub-category filter. Chemicals & Allied Products handles UN-coded hazardous materials with specific packing groups. Petroleum, Oil & Related Products covers fuel grades and derivatives. A chemical listing will declare UN numbers, while a petroleum listing will specify viscosity, sulfur content, or octane rating. Selecting the wrong branch yields irrelevant data.

Question 2

What packing requirement differs for Jute Raw Material compared to general Industrial Supplies?

Accepted Answer

Jute Raw Material typically requires moisture control to prevent mold during transit and often comes in bales that need ventilation. General Industrial Supplies may use standard cartons or pallets. Check the packing section of the listing for moisture barriers or bale weight limits. Ignoring this can lead to cargo damage or rejection at destination.

Question 3

Why does a Leather listing need its tanning method stated before I enquire?

Accepted Answer

Chrome-tanned and vegetable-tanned leather have different chemical residues, water resistance, and end-use applications. A buyer needing upholstery fabric requires different specs than a buyer making footwear. The listing must state the tanning agent used. Without this, you cannot determine if the material meets your technical standards or safety regulations.

Question 4

What documentation does Australia issue for raw biological exports like jute or leather?

Accepted Answer

Australia issues phytosanitary certificates for raw plant materials like jute and veterinary certificates for raw hides. These documents prove the goods are free from pests and diseases. Your destination country may require these for customs clearance. Verify which certificate applies to your sub-category before the seller ships, as re-exporting is difficult.

Question 5

What specification is missing from a thin Packaging Products listing?

Accepted Answer

Thin listings often omit burst strength, flute type, or material composition. Packaging requires precise mechanical properties to protect goods during transit. A buyer needs to know if the board is single-wall or double-wall and its moisture resistance rating. Without these details, the packaging may fail during handling or storage.

Question 6

How does sourcing Hazardous Chemicals from Australia differ from sourcing general supplies?

Accepted Answer

Hazardous chemicals require a Dangerous Goods Declaration and specific UN packaging group compliance. The seller must demonstrate their ability to handle and transport regulated substances safely. General supplies do not require this level of regulatory documentation. Always confirm the packing group and hazard class in the listing before proceeding.

Question 7

What goes wrong after shipment if I ignore the moisture spec for jute?

Accepted Answer

Jute is hygroscopic and absorbs moisture from the air. If the initial moisture content is not controlled, mold can develop during transit. This leads to cargo rejection or price reduction at the destination port. The listing should state the initial moisture percentage. Without this, you risk receiving damaged goods that are unusable for manufacturing.
