How does treatment disclosure affect a ruby listing compared to a natural stone?

Treatment disclosure changes the baseline value and durability expectations for the buyer. A ruby that has been heated or oiled requires explicit mention in the spec sheet. Buyers compare this against untreated stones which command a premium. The clarity grading terms used also shift based on whether the stone has undergone enhancement.

What hallmarking details must an Australia exporter include for gold settings?

The hallmark confirms the metal purity and origin of the alloy used in the setting. Buyers look for official stamps or assay marks that match the destination country's regulations. Without this mark, the item may be rejected at customs or sold as base metal. The setting and finish must also align with the stated purity.

Why does a seller hold a quote for only a few hours?

Metal and stone prices move daily across global exchanges. The quoted price reflects the current spot rate for the gold or silver content and the current market value of the stones. If the buyer delays, the underlying commodity cost changes. The seller cannot guarantee the original price after the holding period expires.

How is insurance calculated for Gems & Jewellery shipments from Australia?

Insurance is calculated on the declared commercial value plus freight and duty. Secure carriage is required because standard postal services do not cover high-value loss. The cost is separate from the product price and must be added to the landed cost. Buyers should verify the insurer covers transit theft and damage.

What is the difference between a rough stone and a cut gem in listings?

Rough stones are uncut and require local cutting or export to a cutting center. Cut gems have already undergone shaping and polishing, affecting their clarity and carat weight. Listings for cut stones specify the cut grade which rough stones do not. Buyers must clarify if the seller provides cutting services or supplies raw material.

When does the Kimberley Process certificate apply to this trade?

The Kimberley Process certificate applies only to rough diamonds moving through the trade lane. It does not apply to cut diamonds or other gemstones like turquoise or amber. Buyers must check the listing to see if the item is classified as a rough diamond. If it is, the seller must provide the certificate before shipment.

What specific detail separates two identical looking ruby listings?

The specific detail is the treatment disclosure and the origin of the stone. Two rubies may look similar in photos but one could be heat-treated while the other is natural. The carat weight and clarity grading also vary significantly between listings. Buyers must read the spec sheet to see the actual treatment status and origin.
