Compare response quality alongside price, because it predicts how the order will run.

Conversely, a plain website, a small company or imperfect English are not warning signs on their own.

The trigger is not the size of one order but the cost of the relationship failing after you have committed to your own customers.

Also record the Incoterm, because it decides where risk in the goods passed from seller to buyer. Without those terms written down, a failure becomes a negotiation rather than a claim.

The second supplier is worth keeping warm even after you choose the first.

Check whether the company's registration lists manufacturing activity, whether process or management-system certificates are held in its own name and for the site it claims, and whether it can show the production step you care about on a live video call at a time you choose. Then ask a technical question that only a maker answers quickly - tolerances, scrap rate, machine capacity, changeover time. Being a trader is not disqualifying, but it changes who can fix a problem and what the price should be.
