Conversely, a plain website, a small company or imperfect English are not warning signs on their own.

Also record the Incoterm, because it decides where risk in the goods passed from seller to buyer. Without those terms written down, a failure becomes a negotiation rather than a claim.

The second supplier is worth keeping warm even after you choose the first.

Then ask a technical question that only a maker answers quickly - tolerances, scrap rate, machine capacity, changeover time. Being a trader is not disqualifying, but it changes who can fix a problem and what the price should be.
