This set of scissors is razor-sharp, as their name suggests. Both of the straight blades—one of which is serrated and the other of which isn't—help in grasping materials to prevent material slip. Adjustments to particular applications are possible using the knurled tension knob. Scissors used in cutaneous surgery can either include tungsten carbide inserts to reinforce the blades, which is more common and less expensive, or they can be entirely made of stainless steel. Scissors must be handled carefully, and they never should be used to cut sutures. When misused, they quickly become dull, their cutting edges become nicked, and their tips are simply positioned incorrectly. Scissors are useful tools for slicing through a variety of thin materials, including paper, cardboard, metal foil, fabric, rope, and wire.
