How does the sieve size on a Walnuts row change the unit of sale?

The sieve size defines the physical dimensions of the kernels, which directly sets the unit of sale for pricing. A listing might quote price per kilogram for small nuts but per pound for large ones. Always convert the unit of sale to your local standard before comparing bids. The order minimum often scales with the size grade, so smaller nuts may have lower minimums than premium large grades.

What phytosanitary details must a United States Walnut seller provide for EU entry?

The seller must provide a phytosanitary certificate issued by the United States Department of Agriculture that lists the specific pest inspections performed. The EU requires proof that the Walnuts are free from specific quarantine organisms. You must confirm the certificate matches the destination's current import conditions before the ship departs. Any mismatch will cause the cargo to be rejected at the border.

Why should I ignore a Walnuts listing posted more than two weeks ago?

The posting date indicates whether the seller still holds the inventory at the quoted price. Walnut prices fluctuate with daily market movements and seasonal availability. An old row likely reflects a stale offer that the seller has already filled or repriced. Contact the seller to confirm current availability and price, but expect the original quote to be invalid.

Who pays for inland haulage if the Walnuts quote is FOB?

Under FOB terms, the seller delivers the goods to the port and loads them on board. The buyer pays for the ocean freight and all costs after loading. Inland haulage from the warehouse to the port is typically the seller's cost in FOB, but you must check the specific incoterm definition. If the quote is EXW, you pay for haulage from the seller's door.

What distinguishes a Walnuts row with a high order minimum from a low one?

A high order minimum usually indicates bulk pricing for large commercial buyers, while a low minimum may reflect smaller pack sizes or higher unit costs. The order minimum sets the floor for the transaction and affects the effective price per unit. Check if the minimum is in bags, kilograms, or pallets to understand the scale of the commitment.

How does the shell type affect the storage requirements for exported Walnuts?

In-shell Walnuts require different storage conditions than kernel-only lots because the shell protects the meat from moisture and oxidation. Exporters must ensure the cargo is dried to the correct moisture content to prevent mold during transit. Buyers should specify the required moisture limit in their enquiry, as this is critical for shelf life and quality preservation.

What specific defect should I look for when inspecting Walnuts grade specifications?

Look for the percentage of broken kernels or foreign matter stated in the grade specification. High-grade lots have strict limits on damage and discoloration. The listing should state the acceptable threshold for these defects. If the specification is vague, request a sample or a detailed grade sheet to avoid receiving substandard product.
