How does chemical assay change the value of Copper Wire Scrap?

Chemical assay determines the pure metal content versus the weight of insulation or other non-metallic inclusions. A higher copper percentage commands a premium because the buyer saves on refining costs. Buyers must compare the assay results against the current metal index to calculate the true net value of the lot.

What is the purpose of a mill test certificate for aluminium?

A mill test certificate confirms the alloy composition and temper of the aluminium product. It proves that the material meets the specific mechanical and chemical requirements of the buyer. This document is essential for downstream manufacturing where material failure could lead to costly production defects or safety issues.

Why does radiation screening matter for scrap metal imports?

Radiation screening checks for hidden radioactive sources that may be embedded in the scrap metal. These sources pose severe health risks and can contaminate entire processing facilities. Destination countries enforce strict screening to prevent accidental exposure and ensure the safety of workers and the environment.

How does particle size affect Cobalt pricing?

Particle size distribution influences the efficiency of downstream processing and smelting operations. Smaller particles may require additional handling or pose dust hazards, while larger lumps might need crushing. The price reflects the cost of preparing the material for the specific smelting process the buyer intends to use.

When does a mineral export licence expire?

A mineral export licence has a fixed validity period set by the origin country's authorities. Buyers must ensure the licence remains active throughout the shipping and customs clearance process. An expired licence can cause the shipment to be held at the port or returned to the origin at the seller's expense.

What drives the choice between break-bulk and container for scrap?

The choice depends on the stowage factor and density of the specific scrap type. Dense materials like copper scrap often fill containers by weight, while bulky items like electric wire scrap may fill by volume. Break-bulk is used for irregular shapes or very large quantities that do not fit standard containers.

How does moisture content impact the quality of scrap metal?

Moisture adds dead weight that the buyer pays for but cannot process into metal. High moisture levels can also cause corrosion during transit or lead to steam explosions in furnaces. Buyers deduct the expected moisture weight from the gross tonnage to determine the actual payable metal content.
