Question 1

How does the active content percentage in Nbr Latex Liquid affect processing yield?

Accepted Answer

The active content percentage defines the solid rubber content remaining after the water and additives evaporate during curing. A lower percentage means the buyer pays more for water and filler, reducing the effective yield per ton. Buyers must compare the active content alongside the price per ton to determine the true cost of usable material. This metric is critical for calculating the economics of the final molded or extruded product.

Question 2

What specific safety data sheet format is required for REACH registered goods?

Accepted Answer

The safety data sheet must follow the format mandated by the destination country's chemical safety authority, not the UK standard. It must explicitly list the REACH registration number if the substance is registered. The section on exposure scenarios must be complete and match the intended industrial use. A generic or UK-only sheet will be rejected by customs and may result in the shipment being returned or destroyed.

Question 3

Why does the UN number dictate vessel acceptance for rubber chemicals?

Accepted Answer

The UN number classifies the chemical hazard, which determines the specific stowage and segregation rules on board a vessel. Some vessels do not carry certain hazard classes due to safety protocols or lack of specialized containment. If the UN number does not match the vessel's cargo capability, the booking will be rejected regardless of price. This constraint is often tighter than the availability of the chemical itself.

Question 4

How does packaging choice between drum and ISO tank change freight?

Accepted Answer

Drums add significant tare weight and volumetric space compared to bulk ISO tanks or IBCs. This increases the freight cost per kilogram of actual product. For liquid latex or synthetic rubber solutions, the packaging material itself can account for a large portion of the total landed cost. Buyers must calculate the cost of empty container disposal or return logistics when comparing packaging options.

Question 5

What distinguishes a polyurethane foam scrap listing from a solid rubber scrap row?

Accepted Answer

The distinction lies in the physical form and the resulting density calculations for freight. Polyurethane foam scrap is often lighter and more voluminous, requiring different stowage factors than dense solid rubber scrap. The impurity profile also differs, with foam potentially containing fire retardants that affect recycling or disposal. Buyers must specify the form to ensure the seller provides a quote based on the correct volumetric weight.

Question 6

Can a pharma grade designation be used for technical rubber applications?

Accepted Answer

While a pharma grade product meets higher purity standards, it is not always suitable for technical applications due to cost and specific additive profiles. The CAS identity and active content must still match the technical requirement. Using a pharma grade for industrial purposes is often economically inefficient. Buyers should request the technical grade specification to ensure the material properties align with their manufacturing process without paying for unnecessary purity.

Question 7

What happens if the REACH registration number is missing from the documentation?

Accepted Answer

The absence of a valid REACH registration number can prevent the goods from clearing customs in many jurisdictions. It signals that the chemical has not been assessed for safety under European regulations. This omission is a critical compliance failure that stops the shipment. Buyers must verify the registration number against the official ECHA database before confirming any purchase to avoid detention or return costs.
