Question 1

How does the excise tax status of Alcoholic Beverages change the landed cost calculation?

Accepted Answer

Excise tax is levied at the point of import into many destination markets, not at export from United Arab Emirates. A quote that excludes this tax will look artificially low. You must add the percentage rate applicable to the specific alcohol content and packaging size. The seller provides the base price, but the final cost depends on your local duty structure.

Question 2

What specific health certificate does a buyer need for Livestock & Animal Products?

Accepted Answer

Livestock & Animal Products require a veterinary health certificate signed by an authorized official in United Arab Emirates. This document proves the animals or meat were free from specific diseases at the time of slaughter or export. Without this certificate, the goods will be rejected at the destination border. Ensure the certificate matches the exact species and age range listed in the commercial invoice.

Question 3

Why does Raw Robusta Coffee Beans require a different inspection than Processed Food?

Accepted Answer

Raw Robusta Coffee Beans are agricultural commodities subject to moisture and defect limits. Processed Food items are manufactured goods with shelf-life and ingredient declarations. Inspecting coffee requires checking for foreign matter and moisture percentage. Inspecting processed goods requires checking labeling compliance and batch numbers. Using a standard inspection for coffee on a processed item will miss critical safety labels.

Question 4

What packing difference matters for Seafood Supplies versus Bar Products?

Accepted Answer

Seafood Supplies typically require insulated containers with dry ice or gel packs to maintain temperature control during transit. Bar Products are shelf-stable and packed in cardboard cartons without cooling agents. The freight forwarder must be informed of the cold chain requirement for seafood. Using standard dry packing for seafood will result in spoilage before arrival.

Question 5

How does the moisture limit affect the grading of Raw Robusta Coffee Beans?

Accepted Answer

The moisture limit determines the maximum water content allowed in the beans to prevent mold during storage. This limit is stated in the trade specification for Robusta, not in the general category title. Buyers must verify the percentage stated in the listing, as exceeding this limit leads to quality degradation. The seller should provide a recent laboratory analysis confirming the moisture level.

Question 6

What documentation is unique to Tobacco & Related Products exports from United Arab Emirates?

Accepted Answer

Tobacco & Related Products often require specific excise stamps or health warnings printed on the packaging. The export documentation must align with the labeling requirements of the destination country. Sellers must confirm if the packaging is pre-printed with the required warnings or if it is blank. Failure to match the labeling can result in the goods being seized at customs.

Question 7

How do you distinguish a listing for Raw Robusta Coffee Beans from general Processed Food?

Accepted Answer

Raw Robusta Coffee Beans are an agricultural commodity that has not undergone roasting or flavoring. Processed Food items have been cooked, canned, or preserved. The inspection criteria for raw beans focus on origin, moisture, and defect counts. Processed food inspections focus on ingredients, expiration dates, and hygiene standards. Confusing the two leads to incorrect inspection protocols and potential rejection of the shipment.
