Question 1

How does the inspection requirement differ between Metal & Metal Products and Ores and Minerals?

Accepted Answer

Metal & Metal Products usually requires dimensional checks and surface finish verification because the value is in the manufactured shape. Ores and Minerals depend on chemical assay results and moisture content testing because the value is in the elemental composition. Inspecting a raw ore lot with the same tools used for steel tubes will yield useless data.

Question 2

What happens if you search for finished tubes in the Ores and Minerals branch?

Accepted Answer

You will encounter raw rock or concentrate listings that cannot be used in your fabrication line. Sellers in that branch expect questions about elemental purity, not diameter or wall thickness. This mismatch wastes time for both parties and signals that you do not understand the material flow.

Question 3

Which Turkish export document is critical for bulk mineral shipments?

Accepted Answer

Turkey issues specific phytosanitary or veterinary certificates only for organic agricultural goods, not for inorganic minerals. For minerals, you need a certificate of origin and a weight certificate issued by an approved surveyor. Do not ask for a phytosanitary certificate for iron ore as it is irrelevant and indicates a lack of knowledge.

Question 4

Why is the packing method a key differentiator in these listings?

Accepted Answer

Metal & Metal Products often uses crating or palletizing to prevent surface damage during transit. Ores and Minerals are typically shipped in bulk containers or bulk vessels without individual packaging. The packing description reveals whether the seller handles finished goods or raw bulk material, which dictates your unloading equipment needs.

Question 5

What specific data point is missing if a Minerals listing only states the country?

Accepted Answer

Without the specific grade or chemical composition, the listing is just a generic label. A buyer needs the exact percentage of the valuable element or the specific alloy grade to calculate landed cost. Any quote based on a country-only description is a placeholder and not a binding offer.

Question 6

What is the costliest assumption when buying raw ores from Turkey?

Accepted Answer

Assuming the listed price includes all handling fees and loading costs is a common error. Bulk minerals often incur significant terminal handling charges at the Turkish port that are not included in the ex-works price. You must confirm who pays for the loading operation to avoid surprise costs at the port of departure.

Question 7

How do you verify the chemical composition of a bulk mineral listing?

Accepted Answer

You must request the most recent laboratory analysis report attached to the specific lot. The category page does not provide this data, so you must ask for the assay certificate before sending an enquiry. A generic specification sheet is not sufficient for a bulk mineral purchase.
