How does treatment disclosure affect the valuation of emerald listings?

Treatment disclosure is critical for emeralds, as most are oil or resin-filled to improve clarity. This process affects durability and care instructions. Buyers must ask if the treatment is disclosed and whether it is standard industry practice or enhances the stone beyond natural limits. Failure to disclose can lead to rejection at destination or lower resale value. Always request a laboratory report that specifies the type and extent of any treatment applied to the stone.

What distinguishes a Roza Product listing from standard gemstone sales?

Roza Product typically refers to specific cutting styles or regional classifications for colored stones. The distinction lies in the cut quality and the specific source of the rough material. Buyers should ask for detailed dimensions and clarity characteristics rather than relying on the name alone. This term may indicate a particular trade practice in Thailand, so clarify the exact specifications and origin with the seller before proceeding.

How does the Kimberley Process apply to rough diamond shipments?

The Kimberley Process applies strictly to rough diamonds to prevent conflict trade. Sellers must provide a valid Kimberley Process Certificate (KPC) for any shipment of rough diamonds. This certificate must match the carat weight and value declared in the invoice. Without a valid KPC, the goods will be seized at destination customs. Confirm the certificate's validity and coverage before agreeing to the purchase.

Why is secure carriage more important than weight for this category?

The value-to-weight ratio of Gems & Jewellery is extremely high, making security the primary logistical concern. Standard freight charges based on weight are negligible compared to insurance and secure transport costs. Buyers should budget for specialized armored transport or high-value cargo insurance. Using standard postal services is risky and often prohibited for high-value items. Ensure the seller uses a logistics partner experienced in high-value goods.

What happens if hallmarking rules in the destination are not met?

Hallmarking rules in the destination dictate the required purity marks on the metal. If the piece does not meet local standards, it may be denied entry or require re-hallmarking at the buyer's expense. This can cause significant delays and additional costs. Buyers must confirm the specific hallmarking requirements for their country before ordering. The seller should provide documentation confirming the metal's purity matches the destination's legal standards.

How do metal and stone prices impact quote validity?

Metal and stone prices move daily, causing the quoted price to become stale within hours. Sellers hold quotes for only short windows to protect against market swings. If the transaction takes more than a day, request a fresh quote. The initial offer will likely no longer reflect current market rates. Always confirm the quote's expiration time in the email or message before making a decision.
