Question 1

How does the clarity grading on a Taiwan stone affect its price compared to carat weight?

Accepted Answer

Clarity grading describes the internal flaws and surface blemishes visible under magnification. A stone with higher clarity commands a premium even if its carat weight is lower than a flawed stone. Buyers often overpay for size while ignoring clarity. Always request the grading report that matches the specific stone to verify the grade. The price per carat rises sharply as clarity improves. This distinction separates mass-produced artificial stones from natural gemstones that carry a real value based on rarity and condition.

Question 2

What specific hallmarking details must I check on a gold piece from Taiwan before ordering?

Accepted Answer

The hallmark indicates the exact metal purity, such as eighteen karat or twenty four karat gold. You must verify that the stamp matches the destination country's legal standards for precious metals. A mismatch causes customs to seize the goods or impose heavy fines. The hallmark also proves the metal is not plated or filled. Check the stamp location and clarity in the listing photos. If the stamp is missing or unclear, ask the seller for a photo of the hallmark before paying any deposit.

Question 3

Why does a quote for custom shape boxes differ from the jewellery price itself?

Accepted Answer

Custom shape boxes are packaging, not the gem or metal. Their cost depends on materials, printing and structural complexity. They do not carry the same daily price volatility as gold or diamonds. You should request a separate quote for the packaging to see the true landed cost. Including packaging in the main jewellery quote can obscure the actual material value. Keep the two costs separate to compare supplier efficiency on the product versus the presentation.

Question 4

How does treatment disclosure change the value of a gemstone listed on this page?

Accepted Answer

Treatment disclosure tells you if the stone has been heated, oiled or fractured filled. Untreated stones with natural characteristics are worth significantly more than enhanced stones. A seller must state the treatment status clearly in the listing. If the disclosure is vague, assume the stone is treated and value it accordingly. Enhanced stones are durable but lack the investment grade status of natural stones. This distinction affects both the resale value and the insurance premium for the item.

Question 5

What role does the Kimberley Process play in importing rough diamonds from Taiwan?

Accepted Answer

The Kimberley Process Certificate ensures rough diamonds are conflict free. It is mandatory for shipments containing natural rough diamonds. Taiwan exports are subject to these international controls to prevent trade in blood diamonds. You must provide the certificate to customs in the destination country. Without it, the shipment will be held or destroyed. The certificate tracks the stone from mine to export, providing a chain of custody that protects your business from legal liability.

Question 6

Why is insurance the dominant cost factor for shipping Gems & Jewellery from Taiwan?

Accepted Answer

The high value density means the insured amount is large relative to the physical size. Insurance premiums are calculated based on the declared value, not the weight. Secure carriage options like registered mail or specialized couriers add to the cost. You cannot save on freight by using standard postal services for high value items. The risk of loss or theft requires comprehensive coverage. Factor in the full insured value when calculating your total landed cost to ensure your margin is not eaten by insurance fees.

Question 7

What distinguishes a magnetic closure box from a standard gift box in terms of listing detail?

Accepted Answer

A magnetic closure box features a specific hardware mechanism that affects the material specification and cost. The listing must detail the magnet type and the board thickness. A standard gift box relies on tuck flaps or glue. Buyers should check the closure mechanism in the product description to ensure it meets their branding needs. The magnetic option offers a premium unboxing experience but costs more. Verify the closure type before ordering to avoid receiving a standard box when a premium one was expected.
