Question 1

How do I distinguish a raw cassava listing from a processed chip listing?

Accepted Answer

Raw cassava listings typically refer to fresh tubers with high moisture content, requiring immediate processing or cold chain logistics. Processed chip listings indicate dried, sliced product with a defined moisture limit, allowing for standard dry storage and sea freight. Check the product description for terms like 'fresh,' 'dried,' or 'sliced' to determine the correct handling and storage requirements for your destination.

Question 2

What specification is missing from a cocoa bean listing that affects chocolate makers?

Accepted Answer

Cocoa bean listings often omit the fermentation status, which is critical for flavor development in chocolate production. Buyers must ask if the beans are naturally fermented or if they require additional processing. The moisture content and bean count per gram are also vital specifications that sellers frequently leave out of the initial listing details.

Question 3

Why does sourcing coconut flour under the wrong branch cause issues?

Accepted Answer

Coconut flour is a processed food item, not a raw agricultural product. Sourcing it under Agriculture leads to sellers who may not have the necessary food safety certifications or moisture-proof packaging. Food and Beverage listings ensure the seller understands the need for hygiene standards and shelf-life stability, which raw agricultural sellers often overlook.

Question 4

What paperwork does Sri Lanka issue for organic coconut cream exports?

Accepted Answer

Exports of organic coconut cream require an organic certificate issued by a recognized body to prove compliance with organic standards. Additionally, a health certificate is needed to confirm the product meets food safety regulations in the destination country. Buyers should verify that the certificate is valid for their specific market before confirming an order.

Question 5

How does packing for centrifuged virgin coconut oil differ from refined oil?

Accepted Answer

Centrifuged Organic Virgin Coconut Oil is typically packed in glass bottles or food-grade plastic containers to preserve its natural properties and prevent oxidation. Refined oils might be packed in larger bulk containers for industrial use. The packaging material and sealing method directly impact the product's shelf life and quality upon arrival.

Question 6

What mistake occurs when sourcing apparel from this category?

Accepted Answer

Apparel and fashion accessories listings from this region often lack detailed information on fabric composition, stitch quality, and sizing standards. Buyers may receive quotes based on generic descriptions, leading to discrepancies in the final product. Always request fabric swatches and detailed technical packs before placing an order to ensure the goods meet your specifications.

Question 7

How do I compare quotes for dried cassava chips effectively?

Accepted Answer

Quotes for dried cassava chips must include the moisture content percentage, as this affects weight and shelf life. Compare the packing specifications, such as bag size and material, to ensure they match your storage capabilities. Also, verify if the price includes loading onto the vessel or if it is ex-works, as this significantly impacts the landed cost.
