Question 1

How do I distinguish between Electric Circuit Components and Networking Devices?

Accepted Answer

Electric Circuit Components & Accessories refers to discrete passive or active parts like resistors, capacitors, and connectors used in assembly. Networking & Communications Devices refers to complete units like switches, routers, or modems that manage data traffic. Check the listing description for keywords like 'board', 'chip', or 'module' for components, versus 'port', 'switch', or 'protocol' for networking gear. Misidentifying these leads to sourcing the wrong end product.

Question 2

Why are Plug Tops listed under Electronic & Electrical in Sri Lanka?

Accepted Answer

Sellers often file Plug Tops under this broad category because they are electrical accessories, even though they are simple consumer goods. This misclassification creates noise in search results for technical buyers. You should ignore these listings if you are sourcing industrial components. Look for more technical sub-categories or specific part codes to find relevant circuit accessories rather than general hardware.

Question 3

What happens if I source Computer Peripherals without specifying software compatibility?

Accepted Answer

Computer Peripherals & Software listings often separate hardware from the operating system or drivers required to run them. A buyer assuming hardware works out of the box may receive devices incompatible with their existing infrastructure. Always check if the listing includes the necessary software licenses or driver support. Confirm OS compatibility in the enquiry to avoid receiving unusable hardware.

Question 4

How does sourcing from Sri Lanka affect paperwork for electronic goods?

Accepted Answer

Goods leaving Sri Lanka typically pass through Colombo port, where export documentation must align with the specific electrical standards of the destination. Buyers must ensure the seller provides the correct test reports or conformity certificates required by their local market. The paperwork chain starts with the seller's declaration of compliance, which you must verify against your import regulations.

Question 5

What specification is missing from a generic Converter listing?

Accepted Answer

A generic Converter listing often omits the input voltage range, output wattage, and conversion efficiency. Without these details, you cannot determine if the unit suits your power infrastructure. Request the technical datasheet or specification sheet before enquiring. The listing title alone does not indicate whether the converter is for DC-DC, AC-DC, or signal conversion.

Question 6

How do I verify if a Ceiling Rose listing is suitable for industrial use?

Accepted Answer

Ceiling Roses are typically residential lighting fittings and rarely appear in industrial electronic sourcing. If listed under Electronic & Electrical, they are likely misfiled consumer goods. Industrial buyers need heavy-duty connectors or junction boxes, not decorative ceiling roses. Verify the material rating and current capacity in the listing details. If the listing lacks industrial-grade specifications, it is likely not relevant to your project.

Question 7

What distinguishes a genuine Networking Device from a misfiled item?

Accepted Answer

Genuine Networking Devices list specific protocols like Ethernet, Wi-Fi standards, or switch port counts. Misfiled items often lack these technical identifiers or describe unrelated consumer electronics. Check the listing for references to bandwidth, latency, or network topology. If the description focuses on aesthetic features or general connectivity without technical specs, it is likely not a true networking device.
