Question 1

How does Clear Cullet Glass differ from finished glass products in packing?

Accepted Answer

Clear Cullet Glass refers to recycled glass fragments used as raw material, whereas finished glass products are shaped items like windows or bottles. The packing for cullet focuses on bulk containment and contamination prevention, often using large sacks or open-top containers. Finished glass requires rigid palletizing, edge protection, and often wooden crating to prevent breakage during transit. Misidentifying the form leads to incorrect freight quotes and damaged goods upon arrival.

Question 2

Why are quotes for Ceiling Rose difficult to compare directly?

Accepted Answer

Ceiling Rose listings often omit the material composition, such as plaster, polyurethane, or wood. They also frequently fail to specify the mounting diameter or decorative detail level. One quote may include the fixing kit while another assumes the buyer provides it. You must request the material type and mounting specifications to ensure the quotes cover the same physical item.

Question 3

What distinguishes Wood and Lumber from Building Material & Equipment?

Accepted Answer

Wood and Lumber contains biological materials that require moisture content and density verification. These items are graded by species and treatment level. Building Material and Equipment covers manufactured items like steel fixtures, tools, or hardware that do not have biological grading. The inspection protocols and quality control measures differ entirely between these two branches.

Question 4

What paperwork does Sri Lanka issue for timber exports?

Accepted Answer

Sri Lanka issues phytosanitary certificates to verify that wood products are free from pests and diseases. This documentation is mandatory for most timber exports to ensure compliance with international plant protection standards. The certificate must accompany the shipment and be presented to customs at the destination. Without it, the cargo may be rejected or subjected to costly fumigation.

Question 5

How do goods physically leave Sri Lanka for these categories?

Accepted Answer

Goods leaving Sri Lanka typically move through the Port of Colombo, which handles both containerized and bulk cargo. Wood and Lumber often ship in bulk or flat racks, while smaller hardware items travel in standard containers. The port's infrastructure determines handling methods and potential delays. Understanding the port's capabilities helps in planning the logistics chain accurately.

Question 6

What does a listing leave out by habit for wood products?

Accepted Answer

Listings for Wood and Lumber frequently omit the exact moisture content percentage, which is critical for structural integrity. They also often leave out the specific grading standard applied, such as stress grades or visual grades. Buyers must ask for the moisture level and the grading code used by the supplier to assess suitability for their project.

Question 7

Why do quotes for Glass and Ceramics vary so widely?

Accepted Answer

Quotes for Glass and Ceramics Related Products vary based on the thickness, tempering, and coating specifications. Some quotes may include only the raw sheet, while others cover cut-to-size or processed items. The packing method also significantly impacts the cost, as fragile items require specialized crating. Clarifying the processing level and packing requirements is essential for accurate comparison.
