Question 1

How does the ash fusion temperature in Spanish thermal coal affect my boiler operation?

Accepted Answer

The ash fusion temperature determines the point at which coal ash begins to melt and form slag inside your boiler. If the temperature is too low for your equipment, slagging can reduce heat transfer efficiency and cause blockages. You must compare the specific temperature value listed on the row against your boiler's design limits to avoid operational failure. This parameter is more critical than simple carbon content for long-term maintenance costs.

Question 2

What specific documentation proves coke meets the strength requirements for my blast furnace?

Accepted Answer

You need a certificate of analysis that explicitly states the Coke Reactivity Index and the Coke Strength After Reaction values. These metrics predict how the coke will behave under the high heat and pressure of a blast furnace. Generic descriptions like high-grade coke are insufficient; you must verify these numerical indices match your metallurgical requirements before confirming the order. Without this data, you risk purchasing material that disintegrates prematurely.

Question 3

Why does the unit of sale matter more for bulk diesel than for packaged fuel?

Accepted Answer

Bulk diesel is typically sold in cubic meters or metric tons, requiring specialized tanker trucks or rail cars for transport. Packaged fuel might come in drums or containers, changing the handling and insurance costs entirely. The unit of sale dictates the logistics chain and the minimum order quantity you can practically receive. Misinterpreting the unit can lead to ordering far more volume than your storage facilities can accommodate.

Question 4

How do I verify if the posted price for thermal coal is still valid?

Accepted Answer

Since coal prices track global spot markets, a quote older than a few days may no longer reflect current supply and demand conditions. Always request a new quotation referencing the current day's date rather than relying on the listing's posted price. The seller may have already allocated that stock to another buyer or adjusted their price based on recent index movements. Validating the date ensures you are not basing your budget on obsolete data.

Question 5

What is the risk of buying anthracite without checking the fixed carbon percentage?

Accepted Answer

Anthracite is valued for its high fixed carbon content, which directly correlates with its calorific value and burn rate. If the fixed carbon percentage is lower than expected, the coal will produce more smoke and less heat, increasing your fuel consumption costs. The listing must specify this percentage, as it varies by mine and grade. Assuming all anthracite performs identically is a common mistake that leads to inefficient combustion.

Question 6

Who covers the cost of moving wood charcoal from the inland warehouse to the port?

Accepted Answer

This depends entirely on the incoterm agreed upon in the contract. If the price is quoted as EXW, you pay for all inland transport from the seller's facility. If it is FCA, the seller handles delivery to the named place, such as the port terminal. You must clarify who pays for inland haulage to avoid unexpected charges that can erode your margin on low-density goods like charcoal.

Question 7

What specific test must accompany petrol listings for safe transport and import?

Accepted Answer

Petrol is a hazardous material, so you need a Safety Data Sheet that details its flash point and chemical composition. This document is required for both safe handling during transport and for customs clearance in many jurisdictions. The listing should reference compliance with international transport regulations for dangerous goods. Without this data, carriers may refuse the shipment, or your destination port may reject the entry.
