How does the copper purity level in a chemical assay affect the payable weight?

The chemical assay lists the exact percentage of copper and the presence of impurities like lead or iron. Destination mills deduct the weight of these impurities when calculating the final payable weight. A lower purity grade means you pay for less actual copper metal, even if the gross tonnage appears the same. Always compare the net payable weight, not just the gross weight.

What happens if the mill test certificate alloy designation differs from the export licence?

Customs authorities in the destination country require the mill test certificate to match the export licence exactly. If the alloy designation on the certificate does not align with the licence, the shipment faces immediate rejection or heavy fines. The seller must issue corrected documentation before the vessel arrives, which causes delays and potential storage costs.

Why does a quote for Cobalt expire faster than a quote for steel scrap?

Cobalt prices track a highly volatile global index that updates multiple times daily. The quoted price is held open for only a short window, often just a few days. Steel scrap quotes may last longer because the index is less volatile. You must act quickly to lock in the cobalt price before the index shifts.

Does the stowage factor of Copper Cathode affect container loading efficiency?

Copper Cathode is dense and heavy, so its stowage factor means weight limits the container long before volume is reached. You cannot fill a container to its volume capacity with copper cathodes. This high density increases the per-unit shipping cost because you pay for the full container weight allowance even if space remains.

How does moisture content in Metal Scraps impact the final invoice amount?

Moisture content adds dead weight to the shipment that you are not paying for. Buyers deduct the moisture percentage from the gross weight to calculate the net payable weight. A wetter lot results in a lower payable weight, reducing the total invoice amount. Ensure the assay or inspection report states the moisture level clearly.

What specific radiation screening applies to recycled Metal & Metal Products from Spain?

Destination countries enforce strict radiation screening on all imported metal products, especially recycled scrap. The seller must provide evidence that the lot passed screening for radioactive isotopes. If the cargo fails this screening at the destination port, it will be rejected or destroyed at the seller's expense. This is a critical compliance step for all shipments.

How do Piping fittings and valves differ in grade from general metal products?

Piping fittings and valves are defined by their alloy designation and pressure rating, not just raw metal content. The grade depends on the specific standard designation, such as ASTM or EN codes, that the manufacturer followed. You must verify that the fittings meet the pressure and corrosion resistance standards required for your pipeline system, rather than just checking the base metal assay.
