How do I verify the fixed carbon percentage stated on the row?

The listing provides the fixed carbon value as a percentage by dry ash-free basis. This figure indicates the pure combustible content remaining after moisture and ash are removed. You must compare this number against your furnace specifications to ensure efficient combustion. If the row does not state the basis, ask the seller to clarify the testing standard used.

Does the sulfur content limit change based on the destination market?

Yes, different jurisdictions impose strict caps on sulfur emissions to protect air quality. A shipment bound for a region with low sulfur limits requires coal with a correspondingly low sulfur grade. Always confirm the maximum allowable sulfur percentage with your destination agent before agreeing to purchase.

What happens if the row was posted three months ago?

The price and availability likely no longer reflect current market realities. Coal trading is highly sensitive to daily index movements and supply shifts. An old posting may have been withdrawn or renegotiated. Request a fresh quote to ensure the seller still holds inventory at the stated terms.

Who pays for moving the coal from the mine to the port?

This depends entirely on the incoterm specified in the listing. If the term is FOB, the seller covers costs up to loading on the vessel. If the term is EXW, you pay for all inland transport and handling. Clarify these responsibilities to avoid unexpected charges at the load port.

Can I mix A Grade Steam Coal with B Grade Steam Coal in one shipment?

Mixing grades alters the chemical profile and may violate destination entry requirements. Each grade has distinct carbon and ash limits that affect combustion efficiency. Shipping a blended lot without declaring the final composition can lead to rejection at the port. Confirm if the seller allows blending and how they certify the final mix.

What specific assay report must accompany the shipment from South Africa?

Destination authorities typically require an independent laboratory report detailing ash, sulfur, volatile matter, and fixed carbon. This document proves the coal meets the contractual specifications. Ensure the report is dated and issued by a recognized testing agency before the vessel departs.

How do bulk tonnage and bagged packaging options affect the landed cost of South African anthracite?

Listings may quote price per tonne, per kilogram, or per container. The unit determines how you apply freight and insurance costs to the base price. Always convert all quotes to a common unit, such as landed cost per tonne, to make a direct comparison between different sellers.
